SDC 2300 Coils.
Are the additional coils ( Coiltek) currently available for the 2300 better than the stock coil. (better sensitivity and depth)? Has anybody tried one at the beach??
Correct me if I am wrong but I find the Salt mode to be very much more powerful and sensitive than the gold mode in average Aussie ground conditions

Re: SDC 2300 Coils.
HI Adrian, I bought a little one, 10 inch eliptical? and after 20 min's I'd had enough, gave it to the wife, she used it for 30 min's and found a shotgun pallet, neither she or I used it again. I met a chap at Tibooburra last year, he had the 14x9 on his SDC, he swore by it. But on the day he got 1 piece and I got 16 (we worked the same area for an hour or two out of our day.) So I don't know, maybe someone with more experence with one could answer. Doesn't look good from where I stand.

Re: SDC 2300 Coils.
Thanks for th info.
I thought I would ask the forum because I have heard similar stories from a couple of 2300 owners.
The coils appear to be very well made. I have Coiltek coils on other tectas and they are fine.......Watched a few vids of the 14 x 9 and it seems a bit wishy washy on small stuff compared to the stock 8 inch which does not surprise me because 14 x 9 seems a bit large for 1/2 gram or less stuff.
0.15 flat bits come in at a max of 6 inches on my 2300 and the 8 inch and about 2 inch on my Infinium with the 10 x 14 although not easy to hear.
For my beach detecting the 14 x 9 would give much better coverage. Trash density on beaches tends to be low making the larger coils worth while.

Re: SDC 2300 Coils.
If I recall correctly, there was a bad bunch of these SDC coils manufactured and Coiltek were swapping them over willingly.Sparrowfart wrote:HI Adrian, I bought a little one, 10 inch eliptical? and after 20 min's I'd had enough, gave it to the wife, she used it for 30 min's and found a shotgun pallet, neither she or I used it again. Think that even though they have been out a while the jury is still 50/50 ...... some love, some loath them ..... guess it depends on what coil their last finds were made with ..... if I had the cash to splash I'd give them a try but really need a mate nearby to compare signals against to get a true indication of how the original compares to the Coiltek.
Not sure about "salt" mode in goldfields detecting but seems to have worked for me last time at the beach.

Re: SDC 2300 Coils.
One of the benefits of the Coiltek coils is the location of the pivot.
Being located at the center of the coil allows an operator that scrubs the coil to follow the contours in the ground. I imagine this would hold true for the beach as well as the bush.

Yeah, that sounds about right.
Could be a goer on the beach by the sound of it.

Re: SDC 2300 Coils.
I am considering giving the 9 x 14 a try but at near on 400 dollars I am uncertain if it will ever pay for itself in beach work....But then I guess it only has to hit on one good ring Aye!!
Are the attaching pieces for the 2300 supplied with the coils?

G’day Adrian,
There’s a kit that you have to buy separate from the coil/s here is a link to “lucky Strike” that Jen sent me.

Cheers.

Re: SDC 2300 Coils.
That size of coil is one of my favorite because of it weight, coverage and general size and depth on most of my gold patches. However I'm talking about a different detector but range of sizes from .1 gm to several ounces on the gold fields.

Thanks Mike. Will give the coil some thought . At the moment it is a bit pricy for me to justify for beach detecting..
Maybe wasting the 2300 on the beach..Might be time to sell it.

Re: SDC 2300 Coils.
Yes adrian, if you are only using the 2300 for the beach and not gold fields its probably wise to sell it..... and buy a 15" coil for the Nox on the beach.
