sdc batteries
Which replacement batteries work best with the SDC2300. The SDC we have has just started to play up and turn itself off and back on with the minelab supplied battery setup.
Thanks Centralvic

Re: sdc batteries
Hello Centralvic,
Recommend Battery adaptors and 2 X 18650 Lithium batteries.
Bought ours + foot rest + coil knuckle protector + coil plate from Woody-Foot Industries.

Maybe this is a start, long time since dealing with them.

Re: sdc batteries
Hi Centralvic,
I gather that you are aware that the SDC has an inherent fault with the battery compartment where if the batteries do not make proper contact you will get the same fault you are talking about. Dirty contacts or bumping the detector may cause the fault. Hope this helps.
Cheers
Doug

Re: sdc batteries
If you stretch out the wire coils in the battery compartment and on the battery compartment lid so that the batteries are held in more tightly you may well solve your problem.
Worth a try!

Re: sdc batteries
Added to toycru's post, you can wrap two layers of electrical insulation tape around each battery, makes them a snug fit in housing.
Re: sdc batteries
I swapped over to varta batteries, (green in colour), they are only 3000 ah and you need two sets in a day but they seldom switch off the detector. Polishing the terminals on your shirt will often stop the detector from turning itself off.

G’day centralvic,
We used a strip of duct tape to hold the original M/L batteries together and solved the drop outs. Then later we bought a new set of batteries that were much better than the original one’s. now we have the adapters and the nh batteries, but the only thing with these batteries is when they go flat the SDC just cuts out without warning, but you get more use out of them than the original ones. Hope this helps
Cheers.

Re: sdc batteries
What run time do you get from the 18650s.
I just use these which keep the tecta going from sun up to sundown And have not had any connectivity probs from day one although I did notice today that the positive spring contact in the batt compartment has compressed a bit which no doubt has resulted in a weaker contact to the batteries on that side of the compartment. Guess I better fix that aye.

Re: sdc batteries
G’day Adrian,
Those are the batteries that we bought and worked better than the original ones. Jen usually gets 2 days out of the 18650s which are the ones she is currently using. Normally she charges them after the second day’s use.
Cheers.

Re: sdc batteries
Hi Mike.
2 days is good going Maybe I could give the 18650s a try out.
I guess in reality I get approx 7 hours out of the 6000 mah's if I take into account the stop for lunch and an occasional rest break.
I have not been out for some serious gold detecting for quite a while now and now that I will likely run out of steam a bit earlier....being old n doddery and so the batts might make it into the second day for a couple of hours.

Re: sdc batteries
I was having a similar problem with my SDC 2300. I had put tape around the batteries but was subsequently informed by Peter Cragg, Minelab dealer, who now has Townsville Prospecting World, to just rub the head of the batteries up & down on the leg of your jeans before you insert them in the detector. Not had a problem since taking his advice.

Re: sdc batteries
G’day centralvic,
We bought ours from finders keepers in Kalgoorlie a few years ago, I’m pretty sure you should be able to get them here in Vic. We use the charger that came with the SDC 2300.
Cheers.

Re: sdc batteries
This is a handy 18650 charger. Charges 4 x 18650 from 240 vac or from the car.
In theory:
My 6000 mah 1.2v NiMh batts can deliver 7.2 Wh ea and my 18650 x 3.7v x 4600mah Lith Ion can deliver 17wh which is approx 2.3 times the power output of the NiMhs.
So yeah I guess they would be a good batt to stick in the 2300. I just never got round to fitting them.
