Which Is Better For Beach Hunting?
Which is better for beach hunting, the safari or the Equinox 800?
My safari is deep, smooth running and deadly anywhere on a beach. I am wondering how the EQ 800 compares. Has somebody out there used both of these detectors for beach work.

Re: Which Is Better For Beach Hunting?
Adrian,
I own both Safari and Equinox 800. Used the Safari religiously (apart from the Surfmaster) until the Equinox was introduced. I haven't been back to the Safari since.
The 800 runs deeper, quieter and with better sensitivity than the Safari.
While I cant tell you how much better than the Safari it is, I can say that given the cordless headsets, the waterproofing, the adjustment control and the weight, I can't see any benefit in going back to the Safari.

Re: Which Is Better For Beach Hunting?
Thanks for the info. The 800 must be seriously good if it is deeper than the safari. Depth has not been a problem with mine but the tecta can at times require the sensitivity to be wound down a bit when in the wet sand and wavelets.
My main beef with the Safari is that it does not perform well in mineralised inland areas....Can quite chirpy.

The mention of "deeper" has always interested me in the detecting hobby.
When you head out do you take two detectors and check every signal with both?
Re: Which Is Better For Beach Hunting?
On specific planned occasions I do exactly that. I have compared all of my detectors against each other at some time or another.

which is better for beach hunting
im pleased with my Equinox 800,its a fantastic detector for beach hunting here in tasmania
super quiet in operation both wet and dry sand
locates targets deep so be prepared to dig at times
lightweight, easy to use in auto or use with a preset menu of your own
excellent battery life, choice of 2 coils
i use wireless ear buds with mine instead of the ones that come with the Equinox
the only thing wrong with it is i cant get out to use it,so im hoping this lockdown will end soon............Mark

Not every signal but when I first got the equinox, I carried out comparative tests in wet sand as that is where I was predominantly hunting.
Targets comprised 1 & 2 dollar coins on lengths of string buried in wet sand.
Fairly agricultural testing but sufficient for me to see a small improvement in depth.
For Adrian, another benefit of the Equinox is that they have 2 accessory coils available. When I can get out beach hunting now, I leave the 15"DD almost permanently fitted.

Re: Which Is Better For Beach Hunting?
I use a 12 in DD Nel Tornado and a 5 x 10 Cores DD on the safari and am happy with those coils for beach work. My old Sov XS and the 15 in WOT DD is dynomite on the beach but it lacks sensitivity to small gold chain. The safari is better but not as good as the Gold Bug Pro on small stuff.

The 15''dd Equinox coil in my opinion does not really improve the detector's performance greatly
maybe just a bit more on finding targets at depth but overall the coil covers a lot more ground area faster than the stock coil
seems not quiet weighted to the detector as well and feels heavy in the hands after swinging it for awhile
So to cover more ground i use it and for a defined search i use the smaller stock coil............Mark

Re: Which Is Better For Beach Hunting?
Picked up a Vanquish 340 for a good price. Will be interesting to see how it compares to the EQ 600.
It has the same detecting ability as the V 540 and runs 3 frequencies. at the same time.
Probably a waste of money but what the hell, a man's gotta amuse himself somehow during this virus BS.
