best coin/relic detector?.
Hey everyone, I am just looking into getting a detector for coin hunting in the local parks/beaches etc. I will be working very close to powerlines in some cases.
What would you guys reccomend? the minelab E-trac or the X-terra 705, both seem like damm good units but from what I have been reading the E-trac is the go. I dont know anything about the garetts or the whites but I guess they have some good units too.
any advice would be helpful
Tim

Re: best coin/relic detector?.
The whites MXT is an excellent machine. It has a coin/jewellery mode, a relic mode and a prospecting mode. I've just found my first nugget with it but it struggles with the ground being so hot. It's been excellent on the beach the park and around old homesteads. I'm looking to sell and upgrade to a gp3500 or better. check it out and if you're interested give me a PM I've got lots of accessories.

Re: best coin/relic detector?.
hey Dicko, yeah I have heard the whites is not a bad bit of kit. I am probably going to stick with minelab Etrac, well at least look into this machine more before making a descision to buy. I know gold gem & treasure magazine has been publishing stories on the minelab coin detectors I should go through my mags and read them..

G day Tim
I swung an x-terra 70 for a while and it was a very good machine versatile to.
I would say that apart from the Minelab multi freq machines it is at least on a par with most other coin/relic detectors.
The E-Trac on the other hand is light years in front of everything imo.

Gday Tim
I had a minelab sovereign gt for quite awhile and did very well with it, I found it really good on the beach and in parks, its a knobs and switches type machine and easy to adjust and use, and you are able to get a 15" coil for it thats great for the beach and waterproof too.
The standard coil is an 11" and waterproof as well, so you can detect the shallows and the wet sand with no worries, the other thing about the sovereign is it has a straight shaft and feels like a real detector, some of the other models always feel a bit flimsy to me, also I got an 8" coinsearch coil for mine off an xt1700 I think it was, which was good for coin hunting in the park and easy to pinpont with.
Overall it was a good machine and I regret selling it, but I will be buying another some time soon.
cheers

Re: best coin/relic detector?.
Well I ordered an Minelab Etrac today, I look foward to getting out and seeing how it goes, it sounds like its quiet the complicated and advanced machine but that doesnt worry me too much. Im intrested to see how the software goes too as it connects to the computer.
thanks guys and wish i was out Mt brown too, bugger!.
