RE; FILLING HOLES
The constant exhortation to fill one's hole had a light go on somewhere..Any takers for this flash :- Have the greenie anti prospecting mob supply venturing detectorists with some potted trees and instead of leaving an unfilled hole, plant a small tree.. Do you think they would be over jubilant about that.???. Imagine,, they may be encouraged to outfit us with modern detectors, picks and all the other paraphernalia we carry.. I reckon they should jump at it. Probably bless us with surplus ground for detecting / tree planting. And no arguments!!! Plus those trees eventually suck up the CO2 factor and hi presto, no global warming, no road gluing, all round peace at last..(.Who let him out).. dundiggin

Re: RE; FILLING HOLES
Hi Dundiggin Not that I don't agree with you in theory. But where I live, in some places you can not hardle swing a detector or find a clearing big enough to work properly because of the trees. The undergrowth even now is to thick in places on the ground because of the tree litter. In regards to the open detector holes that you are finding around the place that's a different issue. I think that the people who leave these holes open don't care about our hobby, or the environment. And really don't care by their actions that our bush could be closed down. So I don't think they would be interested in lagging a long a bunch of small trees to plant. Even prospectors that do the right thing would be interested in tree planting.

RE: FILLING HOLES
Hi wombat, I thought a bit of "tongue in cheek" might give a giggle or two,, after all, those greens are deadly serious about destroying happiness.. You probably know the old maxim " if you can't beat em, join em." But which prospector in the whole wide world would want to join an outfit that's dead set on making his hobby outlawed...Freedom is precious and sadly it is fast diminishing.. dundiggin

Re: RE; FILLING HOLES
I often wondered why mining companies are not required to fill in an open cut..
I'm sure they have a reason.

Re: RE; FILLING HOLES
Firstly... " I fill in all my Holes"
But, a few of years ago North of Lennister, I came across a signal in a hole with a plant growing in it, scooped the plant out for later re burial and proceeded to dig until I came to Cap Rock. AH, the reason why some one had walked away from the signal/ hole. Anyway out with the hammer/chisel and later out can a small gm piece. Replanted the weed/plant.
On of the reasons why I purchased the 7000 ( years ago) was to go over over 2 old patches south of Laverton. Got the 40E's or 20A whatever and as we were driving in to one of the leases, met a vehicle driving out, the vehicle owner telling me he/they had cleaned out the locals areas and it was all ours. When we inspected the sites all we could see was many many holes not filled in. SWMBO was so upset we left, even after me telling her that I could fill the holes in, maybe take 6 hours or so and we could still detect here. Anyway I phoned the Leonora Mines Department etc and took photos etc and we left to detect elsewhere.
Why the story above, well we had a look at the above sites in June last year having a 40E in the area and all I could see was a couple of old holes, storms/rain and wind had re surfaced the area.
No way am I suggesting leaving holes open, just 2 experiences.

Again i'm just curious 'tony p'.
So who are they paying and how much?
I don't see the point in having regs around rehabilitation if someone is getting a back hander to sweep them under the carpet.
Most of us do the right thing in the bush, others just rape the the landscape and get away with it.

Re: RE; FILLING HOLES
No comment about filling in Open Cuts,
But
In some cases 100's of meters of up to 3m deep trenches with large water pipes left in them, not filled in, also large water pipe lengths left laying around, I am not a greenie but its an eye saw.

Filling the hole
Filling your holes should be automatic not even thinking about, is a matter of respect, for nature, for the bush and for fellow detectorists that come after you. We are guests in te bush and supposed to leave the place the way we would like to find it. We have enough problems as it is with the greens and other groups, to give them something to talk about.

Re: RE; FILLING HOLES
Morons and idiots everywhere, not just in the detecting game, you cant teach morons anything, they know everything, watch a TV show that shows getting gold is easy and it's everywhere, and so they think the more holes you dig and the quicker you dig them you will get all the gold before the next person, it save a whole 30 seconds if you don't fill your previous hole. Imagine how many 30 seconds they save a day, and then realize the TV shows were just that, and there is not gold scattered everywhere.
Weekend warriors they give up fairly quick on it when gold is harder to find than the TV show.

Re: RE; FILLING HOLES
If only people could plant it in their heads, a few scrapes of ones boot is all it takes, to back fill a majority of ones holes. If not for the sake of this hobby, do it for the environment.
Cheers Kon.

Hey keoh, mate I should have worded it a bit better, it is the weekend wantabe that don't understand how to fill in a hole with loose dirt, not the warrior like yourself that has been detecting for years and only has time to detect of a weekend, keep up the good work mate.
