Re: gold signal/s
This is my method Tim,
1,first thing scrape the area with your boot,if target is moved it's 99.999% it's not gold
2,light scrape with pick, [30mm depth] if target has moved it's 75% chance it's not gold
3,decent scrape [75mm depth] if target has moved ,50% it's not gold, but now start checking loose dirt, for gold.
4,from now on check every scrape, once your into hard ground your chances improve.
BUT REMEMBER IT'S NOT OVER UNTIL THE BARIATRIC LADY SINGS
Cheers moredeep

G’day moredeep,
I’m glad you put the 99.999%, as I got a little speci last W/E that someone had scraped with their boot. I thought I would check what they had scraped and it turned out to be a nice little speci. It always pays to check every target you find. Mind you I did end up with a pocketful of birdshot pellets and 3 other small nuggies for the time I spent out there.
So Tim the moral of story is to “DIG ALL TARGETS AND CHECK THEM”
Cheers.
Mike.

That's risk I take mike, especially in area's covered in leaf litter,surfaced/clean ground i'll take a little more care.
I suppose it all boils down to time as well,if I'm only going out for a couple of hours; I don't want to spend all my time chasing surface junk.
I do keep an eye out for the odd coin that might be in the boot scrape though.
cheers moredeep

The mistake most newer prospectors (even some experienced ones) make is that they listen for a particular sound.
Important Don't listen for a sound.
Listen for a repeatable change in threshold. It can be a tonal change, it can be a level change, it can be a drop out.
If its repeatable, dig it. If you are not sure, dig it.

I pulled a 15.5g nugget at about 30mm deep. Screamed like junk. I try to dig everything although it can be tough when you've spent all morning pulling rubbish.
Re: gold signal/s
Spot on Tim. Whether found to be on the surface or buried in the ground, the only 100% sure way of Identifying what a positive target signal response is, or could be, is to dig it up, pick it up & visually examine it & or if need be, break it up into pieces & check/scan its inner contents, for metallic minerals.
Cheers Kon.

Re: gold signal/s
I have never been fortunate enough to find a screamer but those few nuggs that I have found have all produced a very low unimpressive mellow broad tone that was the same in all directions of coil sweep and none more than a foot down in tough ground.
But as we all know; Dig it all.....If you have the time and energy.
