The only problem with catching gold fever moredeed, is that there's no cure for it.

Re: Bad Flue season & now Hay fever, whats next?
I did back in late May & it didn't help me one damn bit. Its been 5 days now on anti-biotics & although I feel a little better sore throat wise, I haven't fully recovered from the chest cold & the odd cough here & there. The flue shot (said the doctor) only covers 3/4 main strains of influenza virus, but there are many more types that one can catch & come down with.
Cheers Kon.

Re: Bad Flue season & now Hay fever, whats next?
I feel sorry for you, Kon. Having the flue is not funny at all. I used to have it every year but since I began having flue shots back in 1999 before our trip to Europe I haven't had it since. Cheryl, my wife has never had the flue in her life nor any other ailments like the measles or chicken ox. She has an unbelievable immune system.
I was puzzled that you should have had antibiotics as the flue is a virus and antibiotics have no effect on a virus.
But I have to agree with you on gold fever, once caught you have it forever. I got it in 1979 and have suffered badly ever since. If I don't dig a bit of gold for a few months I get all twitchy and sharpen up my picks or recharge the batteries. I'll even get out some nuggets just to look at how they glow and feel their weight. I won't die of it but I'll die with it.

Knock on wood, both you & Cheryl stay fit & healthy the rest of your lives Jim.
That's the problem Jim, we rely on doctors to help us get better as quickly as possible. One look down my throat & coughing with a sore chest & I was put on anti-biotics, before I could blink. Stay home & keep warm with a few days rest, take all your prescribed medication, including Asprin or Panadol (if need be for the slight fever/migraine) & avoid close contact with other members of the family, till you get better, were the Doc's recommendations. I'm sure it has to be the right advice, but yeah sure, how does one avoid contact with other family members all living in the same house? Mind you this all started a few days after the wife came back from a bingo session, with a slight sneeze & a cough. Well that's right, blame the wife, for my son & I both copped it a few days after that. Meanwhile the wife's fully recovered, ready for her next Bingo session.
Totally agree with your last paragraph though. Gold or no gold, prospecting/metal detecting for gold, has to be one of our favourite past times. It is the art of exercising both mind & body, without one even realising it. As long as one don't go overboard in pushing the boundaries of human limitation/expectation, a very healthy hobby indeed.
Cheers Kon.

Re: Bad Flue season & now Hay fever, whats next?
Maybe a good slug of single malt might fix it kon?
This flu season has been a double whammy for a lot of people in central vic including myself,a lot cases have progressed to good old poo-nomia [shitty chest],followed by what I call
the hundred day cough,it goes on & on & on.
So plenty of internal antiseptic I say, maybe just a dram or two:lol:

Not to worry about the dram or two moredeep, for I'm a step ahead on that one. Timing a tripple shot of the fine blend, in between the medicine times, is of critical importance, but I must be doing something right, for I'm not pickled yet.

RE: Bad flu season and now hay fever whats next
Hi Kon61gold, Yeah I'm over the flu now but I had it bad despite having the shot in april,, my doc said I had the bad strain and put me on TAMIFLU tabs which as he said only kills part of the flu virus.. Over night I lost the aches and heavy limbs, head became clearer, coughed my heart up for three weeks and suddenly was much better.. The TAMIFLU tabs are not on the free list so the 5 day course of 10 tabs cost $64.46!!!! So $6.44 twice a day.. I need to find the gold.. So far this year up here (Qld) near 200 have died from the flu. So there is a deadly strain about . We all need to feed the immune system.. Strangely, my wife never got it ,, not even a slight cough and we share the same bed.. Bit like finding gold some get it some don't...All the best, dundiggin.

Re: Bad Flue season & now Hay fever, whats next?
Flu season has hit me !!! Had my flu shot in may or June, got bout of bug at end of June, went to Doc, was told had flu... ok... 3.5 weeks later no better, could`nt walk breath - rang Ambo`s .... long story short, blood clots in both legs - lungs and a massive one in heart. 2 weeks in ICU and talk of heart transplant then 2 weeks in ward, then home on all sorts of meds due to the flu... before the flu all good, but getting better

Sorry to hear that Kon and others suffering the flu, however anti-biotics for flu??????
They handed out free flu jabs at work back in the 90's I had a jab and within a week thought I was going to die. Swore I'd never fall for that again.
Fast forward to late 2000's retired and my doctor advised a full medical and a flu shot when available. Explained what had happened with my first and only.
The doctors explanation was; "You will not get the flu from a jab, you would have already had the symptoms."
Bottom line have had an annual flu jab since 2008 and touching the wood you mention have got through every season.
Measles have claimed lives here in 2019 and Gastro has been rampant also in Perth this season to add to your two.
Keep well folks.
***Take copious amounts of the gold fever "bring it on" medicine every night.***

Re: Bad Flue season & now Hay fever, whats next?
Not good news at all byronbinalong. Get well soon & a speedy recovery.
These flue type & other so called viruses seem to be getting worse by each passing year Nightjar. No sooner do we escape one thing, only to be knocked off the perch by another.
Took a stroll through some section of nearby goldfield yesterday & the walk in fresh air & sunshine alone, is a remedy in itself. Feeling better & getting stronger by each passing day fellas. Might even go out for a swing of the coil this arvo.
Cheers Kon.

Being out bush is good for the mind and body, especially in good weather. As far as the flu shot goes, l would not go any where near it. Sounds to me like the flu shot has not helped those who where given it. But each to there own.

RE; BAD FLU SEASON AND NOW HAY FEVER, WHATS NEXT
Sorry to read about your extreme dose of flu Byronbinalong, hope you stay well enough to indulge finding the yellow..It must all come down to our personal immune system,, some get it some don't whether we have the jab or not.. Much like finding gold-- we all have detectors but some are fortunate while others are not... That statement does not put me off prospecting but adds liniment to the fever.. dundiggin

Morning Kon, Hoping you and all not well are making recovery.
Many GP's including mine prescribe antibiotics as a last resort, especially not for the flu. It is now proven our inbuilt immune system is being affected badly with over prescribed antibiotics. This is especially noticeable in todays children, parents taking the easy way out thinking they are helping. It is also reported many GP's over prescribe.
Personally I'd be questioning your GP.
Quote from Google: Antibiotics are medications that fight infections caused by bacteria, but the flu is cause by a virus. Taking antibiotics when you have a virus may do more harm than good. Taking antibiotics when they are not needed increases your risk of getting an infection later that may resist antibiotic treatment.

Re: Bad Flue season & now Hay fever, whats next?
Good to hear byronbinalong. What can I say Pete. I have to trust in my local GP's decision. One thing I can say for certain, is that the pain of an extremely sore throat when swallowing, dis-appeared within 48 hrs of taking Amoxicillin. The rest (sore chest coughing up flemm part) is taking a while longer, but is clearing/getting better with each passing day. Keep in mind, I was taking Panadol/Aspirin for 3 continuous days, before seeing the GP but to no avail. The sore throat/cough just kept getting worse. Not quite 100% better yet, but sure feel a lot better now, than what I was feeling a week or so back. Not a problem over the last 2/3 years, but whatever strain of flue type virus is floating around this year, has been quite infectious to many a young/old person. Take care out there all.
Cheers Kon.
