Re: My biggest bit yet with the sdc2300
G’day Ozgold,
I forgot, this was the formula that I used.
Quick S/G formula
Dry Weight 2.34 x 1.9 = 4.446
Wet Weight 2.06 x 3.1 = 6.386
6.386 - 4.446 = 1.94g
Oops I just had another look at the formula you gave us and saw that it’s the same.
Cheers.
Mike.

Thanks Mike and Jen for trying to find a rock the same size as your specie. It was worth a shot. Harry
PS. By the way, what are the dimensions of your specie Jen?

Re: My biggest bit yet with the sdc2300
Hi Jen and Mike,
Very nice find there. You have got us all going with this one.
I think you need to do the wet weight again.
Make sure there is enough water in the cup so you can fully submerse the speci without it touching the sides or bottom of the cup at all.
Make sure you tare the scales before dangling the speci in the water.
This is effectively calculating the volume of the speci (amount of water it displaces, 1ml of water weighs 1 gram)
To me your speci looks like it is pretty much quartz with a negligible amount of caprock coating.
A piece of quartz containing no gold with a volume of 134ml would weigh roughly 350grams. (much more than your speci weighs)
A piece of quartz without gold weighing 180 grams would have a volume of around 69ml.
So your speci containing gold (gold much more dense than quartz) would displace less than 69 grams of water. ( You should get a reading on the scales significantly less than 69 grams).
Keep up the good work and hope you find some more beauties.

Re: My biggest bit yet with the sdc2300
Hi Au100Z
Thankyou
As we turn the rock around there’s gold sticking out on most of the rock, the picture doesn’t show it well.
It is still a guessing game, I think we may now wait until we get back home and hopefully get someone to dip it into that strong acid, then it will really show what’s in it
If not we shall put it in the dolly pot
If there’s a good ounce in it, Yay! If there is a little more, bonus!
Thankyou

Congrats Jen. A great effort with the SDC.
Has there been a better find with an SDC recorded on here?
I can't wait for the official weight ......... It'll give my wife a target to beat
Rob.

Re: My biggest bit yet with the sdc2300
Hi Rob
Thankyou.
I am not sure if anyone has posted up a bigger find with the sdc2300 on here.
I am sure there have been some big finds with the sdc2300 though.
It may be a while before we put the weight up, we aren’t back home in cold Victoria yet
But as soon as we can, either acid it, or smash it up, We will let everyone know the weight.
Thankyou.

Re: My biggest bit yet with the sdc2300
According to the wet/dry weight results, I'v come up with 2.15 ounces of contained gold or 66.87gms mixed in with your quartz/ironstone specimen.
Let us know what gold content weight you guys come up with Jen.
Cheers Kon.

Re: My biggest bit yet with the sdc2300
I hope I didn’t miss any other posts, sorry if I have, Mike pointed out that I missed Wombats.
Sorry again.
I have a bad habit of scrolling really fast to the last post and then looking upwards till I think I am back to where I was at.
Where as Mike re reads every post 100 times he does, pretty sure he does
well I think he does
I have asked a friend if it’s possible to have it put into that horrid acid.
Answer is—- Yes, happy to do it. But that’s if he can obtain some more of that acid.
So stay tuned. Although It may still be 2 months away,
as we aren’t ready to head back to the cold just yet.

Re: My biggest bit yet with the sdc2300
Well done again Jen But not quite as good as the Species that were found just latterly over WA worth $15 Million. You'll have to go out again to see if you can find it's VERY BIG Brother. But remember keep your car very close so you won't have to carry it to far.
