I Am Bloody Angry
I went out this morning to the Maryborough Regional Park to relax and do a bit of detecting before the rain. Low and behold fresh unfilled detector holes everywhere. These are only a few day old. This area is just of Settlement Pond Rd near the main Maryborough Ballarat Rd. Who ever was the cause of this and left there holes open is a complete selfish B!ck Head. You are giving the Greens every reason to shut these areas down for prospecting. FILL YOUR F*CKING HOLES IN !!!!! We are right now trying to stop VEAC from turning State Forest into State or National Parks and you are giving them ammunition to shoot back at us.
QUAKE UP PEOPLE who don't fill there holes in. It only takes a few seconds to do.!!!!!

Re: I Am Bloody Angry
Having just read that report I am totally disgusted. That report on prospecting in Victoria is the biggest load of garbage I have ever read on the subject. What it means is that there are many people out there working very hard on restricting prospecting in any form in any park, State or National. To say that metal detecting in parks is helping to destroy parks is garbage.
My first thought is that it is people out there working on ways to ensure their nice fat pay check keeps coming in every week so they have to justify their existence. As for Aboriginal sacred sites, very few people, Aboriginal or non Aboriginal would know a sacred site if they fell over it.
I once saw a big group of Aboriginals from Perth being taken around in nice flash Toyotas. They were driven out on mining leases to identify sacred sites by the mining companies. They got free flights up from Perth, accommodation, big daily money as well as all expences paid. While being driven around they would point out sacred sites that were then fenced off. We saw some of the sites and each site looked no different to any other part of the ground. No nothing. The worst part was that the local Aborigines said they didn't even know who this mob were. They had never lived in Leonora as one bloke said, he'd lived in Leonora all his life, 65 years and they were all strangers. They was no way they would know a local sacred site.
I reckon this is what is going to happen in Victoria and we will be pushed out. Pathetic.

Re: I Am Bloody Angry
You should be VERY ANGRY BILL,
Suspect Newbies, no Miners Right, possibly hired detectors? Dam Pay TV Gold shows, U Tube Prospecting Promoters,
oh and its school holidays as well.
Tried telling Rita Bentleigh about this BIG Problem in the field around two years ago noticed it was getting Much Worse?
My suggestion was that the PMAV should run courses on how to prospect within the law and only after doing the course would a prospector be aloud to
purchase a Miners Right.
For sure if this situation continues we will be out of the bush for good, all areas.
Some prospectors are a worse enemy than the Greens to prospecting.

I share your anger Bill.
Prospected with a DH who refused to fill his holes.
We filled them in and he has never been invited again.
I just don't understand the reasoning of people like that.

It's just possible that the very same people that are pushing for all these parks are the very same ones that are doing the damage/leaving holes etc to be able the point the finger at prospectors, this type of sabotage has been known to happen before in all types of industries just to get a point across.

Re: I Am Bloody Angry
You certainly have every right to be annoyed Wombat especially with all the hard work you selflessly put into protecting the rights of prospectors. I push in any unfilled holes I see. Let's hope this small group of less evolved people mature and see the errors of their ways. I don't see many holes left open myself and think the majority certainly do the right thing. I know my approach has evolved over time. Someone mentioned newbies and the TV shows showing the appeal and benefits of prospecting to a wider group of people. I haven't seen these shows but I have noticed an increase in the publics interest in prospecting over the last few years.
I haven't seen these shows but I wonder if they invest sufficient time in their programs speaking of these issues. I'm not sure what resources stores or detector distributors and manufacturers allocate in these areas also. It would be great to see an iPad with stand available at all the detector stores. Even a QR code sticker or link to a youtube list will give easy access to videos and information. Perhaps this could be incorporated into the registration for warranty or repairs with the dealers/manufacturers Better yet get the software programmers to have a QandA during use of the detectors. Fail the Q and it detector turns of for 20 minutes..

Re: I Am Bloody Angry
What I think should be done is before any Miners Rights is handed over their should be a Q & A test sheet that has to be answered before you you even get a licence. And you must have 98% pass first. This way there is no excuse, like I did not know. This can be done either on the internet or at the out lets that sell licences. You have to do it now for most things. So why not Miners Rights.

Re: I Am Bloody Angry
The outback (bush) belongs not to any single individual body, but to all that use & inhabit it. It has been the Australian way of life from day one. It belongs to us all. There's only one law to the bush, leave it as close as to how you found it. The Australian outback (bush) is like a school within itself, a never ending learning curve. The source of all living life lies within the the oceans as well as in the outback forests/scrub. To shut or close either one off to man, would be like halving ones existence. Both are essential to the well being of us all.
As for the politicians, their only interest is in gaining favour from the minority few bodies which hold essential seats, than looking after the majority of Australians, who bring so much to the outback towns, as well as gain much knowledge/experience from the outback in return.
Bill, as long as 3 of those questions on the Q & A test sheet don't consist of "where, when, & how much?) I see no issues with such.
Kon.

Re: I Am Bloody Angry
It never ceases to amaze me why a person who uses a detector is still capable of chucking metallic rubbish on the ground, we all get peed off by detecting junk so why would anyone in their right mind litter a place where they are detecting, I have seen areas lately that have had obviously illegal scraping and activity, fire places left open with beer and spirits cans, and wine bottles all over the place, one twit even left two orange garbage bags full of rubbish on the ground next to where they must have had there caravan parked.
Apart from that holes left open everywhere and vegetation damaged, these are all the things that have gotten pastoralists up in arms and groups such as calm and the greens doing their best to make these areas inaccessible to us, we are giving them the very ammunition they need to lobby the government and have these place shut down to us, people need to wake up and start reporting these a'''holes if you know who they are then don't let them get away with it or in the end we all pay the price.
Look at the end of the day its due to the way our society has changed, and its not for the better, some people have become so greedy and disrespectful to each other they don't give a rats ass if what they do effects others as all they care about is themselves, I have thought long and hard about why these people do what they do and what motivates them and the only conclusion I can draw is they are simply just a'''holes as no other description suits to describe them, and the reason is simple the system has taught people to be this way starting from the time it took the rights to punish a child off parents, proper discipline out of schools, neutered our police force, and a piss weak legal system that's too interested in making money than to punish people, in short a complete lack of punishment or repercussions for any crimes committed, we are getting paid back for our leniency and its going to get much worse.

Re: I Am Bloody Angry
We are a small group in this nature users game . Don't go blaming detectorist's for all the rubbish. Maybe some can be blamed for leaving holes, but they are in the minority. Huge groups of first time campers have no idea about how to leave a site. And it will take time for them to appreciate what we have got. So please stop shooting ourselves in the foot , the blame has to be shared equally. Until someone comes up with some proof, lets stop the free bad publicity we are giving the greens, remember they have no positive proof about who is doing the damage either. Harry

One suggestion
To all those who reply and greet new members, (in the New Members section) could you please inform them of this forums' policy on filling in our holes, and the reasons why we have to do this. Don't assume they magically know about this problem, most don't. This way, we will at least ensure that they have heard about this problem at least once from whoever greets them. (It would be nice to make them pledge to fill in their holes, but it might be a bit much to ask. ) Harry

I hear what you are saying but the areas I was referring to as I said had actual evidence of scrapings and also dig holes so they were definitely detector users not just campers, and where we go very few people would venture in to these types of gold bearing areas to camp but obviously prospectors would, I would agree that when someone applies for a miners right they should have to study and complete test like when getting any form of licence so that they are made aware of their obligations and also to their rights as well, as far as your comment about first time campers goes ignorance is no excuse as we all know when we are doing the wrong thing but the reality is just some lowlifes don't give a chit about the environment or about others who might go there, my policy and that of the people I detect with is that all we leave behind is tyre tracks, and if you can take your rubbish in there with you then you can take it out as well.

I would say that in general, I feel detectorist's are very respectful of nature and the environment. All the people I speak too tread lightly, and have a wondrous love for nature. Society would be better off if more people were like us but I will not be encouraging more newby detectorist's. The gold yields would suffer though.

I wouldn't make to much of a song and dance about people doing the wrong thing as it just creates it in the eyes of every one. I'd keep pushing the rules and state that most every one follows these. There will always be exceptions in this world. I think that if we make to many rules we are in danger of becoming just as bad as the greenie fruitcakes. You are never going to get every one to toe the line and adding lots of rules will just give them more rules to break. I'd be slow to obsurve wrong doers and quick to see people doing the right thing.

Bill, (wombat), hang in there bub. We are all behind you 110%. Don't let the odd freckle get to you.
The way I live life is: When I'm attempting to achieve something I give it everything I have , then, when it's over, I am fairly unimpressed whether I win or lose. Then I still am able to fight the next fight without being too knocked about in the process. Works for me.

Re: I Am Bloody Angry
Well Bill I guess it must be the same duds who go detecting on my private property at night and digs holes in my tracks and steal my gold and can't be bothered filling their holes in either.
There must be a lot of these idiots out there 'cos last week a mate came up from Melbourne and we took a run around some of Paddy's Ranges and there were unfilled holes all over the place. Regrettably there is no solution to this problem and the end result WILL be that detecting will be banned or restricted in ever increasing sections of crown land. The greenies will succeed in ruining a great hobby because of an extremely selfish bunch of lazy morons.
I wish there was something we could do about this issue but one thing I do know is that it has been a problem for years and it won't just go away.

Maybe a Metal Detecting License that requires you to do a written test at the time of purchase that proves you understand what is required to be a responsible detectorist............NAAAAAH that would not work. I mean we all sit an exam to get a driving license but everybody Still drives like a di head.
The problem with complaining here about these non hole filling drongoes is that it is a fair bet that none of them are part of the forum and likely even less of them can read let alone type a topic or reply on this forum and so none of them ever know that they are stuffing it up for all of us.

I think these people not filling their holes should be placed in the dogie bags, because that's what they are,a steaming piece of excrement [hopefully within the forums vocabulary]
Maybe metal detecting stores should emphasize to new purchasers of detectors the importance of filling holes and the reasons why??? or compulsory notifications about rules and regulations on ebay/gumtree adds,
I,m clutching a straws here aren't I and living in la la land as well

Re: I Am Bloody Angry
I guess when a significant number of people start doing stuff that interferes negatively with the environment and other people and activities then it may be time to introduce some controls, laws, rules etc. But on the other hand we should not be over controlled and regulated just because a small group of people want control over everything and think that we should all behave the way they want us to. We are borne free so to speak and Australia is already the most regulation, rule and law controlled country on the planet. We are in fact a Nanny Country where the population has become so compliant and apathetic that people are accepting just about any rule or law that is applied to them.
You know how it is. If you watch enough porn videos people begin to think that they are the norm and that type of behaviour is then ok.
We are already accepting security cameras on every street corner and facial recognition devices that are spying on all of us continually stealing our privacy.
Now there is electronic trickery in our smart TVs that can watch us and listen to what we are talking about and doing in our own homes that can tx this info to manufactures and advertising companies and national security services and people now say that if you are not doing anything wrong then you have nothing to worry about. We are no longer free people we are all just workers, drones making money for the controllers and we think that this is fine.
