A Mod for the CC pick
Instead of repairing this pick I decided to try something using a hardened bolt so it can be changed when needed.I'm ordering some Ramset nails with 8mm thread for replacement tips.So far I've used it for 2 weeks and works a treat.

Re: A Mod for the CC pick
Nice I like the concept, I wonder if a tube type female thread like those used to join booker rod would supply a more stable thread to anchor the tips, thanks to one of our crews inventiveness I have been running with a cold chisel welded to the worn point of my pick for a couple of years now, I love it, naturally its horses for courses but in the ground I work I find it a great ground breaker, I really like the interchangeable tip idea, thanks

Re: A Mod for the CC pick
Gday
My small cc pick tip has worn out and when I went in to get a replacement they are now $150 so being a tight ass I decided to just cut a slice from a plow disc that I have and weld the slice on to it but when I used it on the last trip the extended tip piece started to bend just past the original tip, the welding heat must have softened the disc slice metal, but not to be deterred and still being a tight ass I welded another slice on top of that one, then welded it all along the sides, ground it all back with rounded edges, and gave it a coat of paint,
I found that on the last trip and after being used quite a lot the tip is showing little or no signs of wear, the paints off but the tip and point are fully intact, the welding along the edges has hard faced the tip and along edges as well, and the extra bit of weight makes it very efficient, the longer the tip on the pick the better it breaks the ground, meaning less effort is required to get the hole started, so next step is to weld a wider piece on to the scraping end.
