oldie but a newbie
Gidday all,I'm a long time watcher of this forum but have decided to become a little more vocal due to the new a and up coming changes to areas we can and cannot detect in.
I started out with the old A2B about 25/30 yrs ago and dug hot rock for nearly 2 years
I then bought a second hand sd 2000 and went for 6 months with out a bit of color ,finally one day I got a dull murmur using the 18 inch dust bin lid coil, it wouldn't cancel out,1 hour and 18 inches later through pipe clay I pinged a 15 ouncer, would you believe it ,that was my first bit of gold, for the rest of the day I dug every hot rock noise until I was jiggered.
On my way back to the car I detected a slight dull noise but was too fatigued to dig it,I went back a week later to dig up a 3 ounce piece, that was my introduction to to detecting with a minelab.
I persevered with the old girl [sd2000] until about 7 years ago ,I'm now swinging the 5000 with 14 inch elite, wow; what an amazing machine .
My moto is, gold is a gift from mother nature, enjoy the bush ,make good friends, take your rubbish home ,and fill your holes.
cheers and good luck ,
ps my user name "moredeep" comes from the sci fi movie 'DUNE'

Welcome to the forum moredeep. Dune hey? shock: Hmm. That science fiction film goes back a bit, but I do recall having seeing some version of it on more than one occasion over the years.
