Insurance and camp security
Hi all, anyone have a suggestion for a good insurance company that will provide cover for detectors and camping gear whilst out in the field? I probably should do a search but new offerings come about.
I'm getting some camp netting to cover vehicle, trailer and keep on the bike also. Looking into trail cams which can also sms. Anyone have any good ideas on camp security I'm sure we'd appreciate it. I have heard of leaving a UHF switched on at camp which could be an idea...
Cheers

Re: Insurance and camp security
WF2.0 , we to are interested i what others come up with for insurance as the quotes we have got have been very expensive. We use a couple of camouflaged high definition infrared cameras that work on movement and record, at least we can look at them if the need arises and have a picture of who is in our camp. One we purchased from aldi a couple years ago and the pthermis one we made up which looks like a normal small rock just lying on the ground.

Re: Insurance and camp security
I have an extra on my household insurance that covers all my possessions including camping and detecting gear for fire, theft or accidental damage anywhere in Aust, costs about $150 pa extra but is good peace of mind. I use a broker to place my insurance but the policy is with CGU. If I make a sizable purchase, like I just bought a 2300 I email the serial number to my broker, helps if you have to make a claim.

We do the same as mallee00, just an extra in the household insurance, different company but works exactly the same.

Hope we never need it but YES added to our household policy.
While on the road one of us always stays with vehicle & van while the other shops.
Am curious about WF2 comment about leaving a UHF switched on at camp? What advantage is that?

Re: Insurance and camp securiy.
I set my caravan up with reed switches on the door wired to a 12v battery and a 120db siren hidden on the 'van (external) plus 2 switches so I can set it from internal or external.
Cost around $30............

You might as well talk to your empty tent or caravan going by the gibberish my detector mates talk while they're trying to talk in code.Nightjar wrote:Hope we never need it but YES added to our household policy.

Re: Insurance and camp security
Hi Peter, we have a voice activated VHF radio that will transmit any sounds or voices from someone trying to break in. That will come through on our hand held and alert us to what is going on. Also have a siren that will activate when the door is opened while switched on. Saying that, in all the time we have been detecting and bush camping, 40 years, we have never had a break-in. Last year we had a few items stolen from outside our van while we were sleeping. That does give you a bad taste in your mouth. We knew who stole the gear but couldn't prove it.

Haha, yeah the code speak. The latest model uniden UHF has scrambling tech so if you all have them you can speak without the code. About $270 for the unit.
