First Gold Trip For The Year
We just returned from our first dose of the bush for the year. We began our detecting around Mayborough camping in the bush as we usually do. The weather began as good as you can get at this time of the year, crisp mornings and warm afternoons, warm enough to get a sweat up with only light breezes. We spent a week there and our biggest bit was 3 grams that I found as a one bit patch on new ground.
We left Maryborough and spent 2 nights in the Avoca CP while detecting the bush. Found one little patch on new ground that someone else had found years ago and got about a dozen little bits with our 2300's.
Left Avoca and camped at Green Hill Lake at Ararat for a few days. Again, great weather - to begin with. Then it got hot with strong northerly winds. We worked around Ararat and Cheryl found our best bit, 8 grams at about 10 inches. She also found a nice little glory hole with 10 small nuggets in it. Also about 10 inches deep. Don't let anyone tell you a 2300 won't go deep. I got a good signal and dug well over a foot for a bit of lead. Had it been gold it would have weighed about an ounce,. Bugger!
It then became too hot for the bush and we took a day off to shop and have lunch at the Ararat RSL, a great place for a meal. The next day we left Ararat while it was still too hot and moved north to a friends place.
Here we worked new ground for little return until we got sick of digging lead shot and we decided to work some diggings I hadn't been on before. Little bits began to turn up every few minutes and we soon had a nice little rattle in our jars.
The next day it was blowing a gale and we decided it was time to head home a day early. We had a great time and while we found 87 bits for just on an ounce between us we were very happy with what we found. Victoria isn't as flogged out as I thought. Altogether we worked only 8 days when we took into consideration the half days.
Next stop is Tibooburra in May. We are really looking forward to that. If anyone else is going to Tib this year and needs information let me know and I'll help out if I can, and my book Tibooburra Gold is also still available and right up to date.
Cheers, Jim

First gold trip for the year.
Glad to see you're both still finding bits with the 2300s. Some time ago you had an article on adjustments to your bungy strap, harness and a few other things to make life easier for a 2300 user.It could have been in Gold Gem and Treasure. I've tried to find it but can't, as I now have a 2300 and could do with some advice on how to set it up. Could you tell me where and when the article was so I can look It up? Thanks Jim. xmas tree.

As always, an interesting read Jim, sure can't be too fished out picking up an ounce, great tax free weeks wages.
Wish you luck on your next venture.

Re: First Gold Trip For The Year
Great story and great results Jim.
I agree. It would be fantastic if we could get a few more stories posted.
I was hoping I could do a story on my last trip. But alas, no gold for me this time. The best thing I found. Was a 1862 Threepence.
Enjoy your Tibooburra trip.
Cheers,
NeoGeo.
