Re: Open Digholes
gotta agree mate. (not gunna argue about desacrating the inviroment)
when green field prospecting, any old timer dig holes and creek cleanouts, tells you its gold country and then any detectorite signs tell you what you can hope to find and as always, what you were beaten too. but it definately makes you go slower and lower in that area.
i just posted how i refound a fifteen year old spot, none of my fifteen year old digs were evident, as i go to great pains to fill in and repair any signs of having been there, but i did note a few more recent larger dig holes in the area, so i am now encouraged to return to that area as it is richer that i knew way back ... kev

Re: Open Digholes
Hi Alan,
Could be mate...I'll go back at some point and have a good look and a detect. If it was gold then there may be a few left....it wasn't chained.

Re: Open Digholes
We have often found old dig holes to be rewarding. We have sometimes found spots when out prospecting that showed very faint old holes that looked as if they were dug by folk using A2Bs or similar. I recall two of those spots produced well over a hundred little nuggets each with several others producing almost a hundred. The best spot was north of Laverton and another south of Sandstone. I was blown away that no one else had found them after all those years. But, last year we returned to a very small old patch where Cheryl had found 3 or 4 ounces using a 2200 and DD 14" coil way back in 2001. We had returned several years later with a couple of 4000's and found another 25 grams and were surprised then that it had remained undiscovered. Last year, with Two 2300's we returned again and again no one else had found it. This time we only got 16 grams off it but the funny thing is that this patch is in plain sight only 25 meteres off a main track at Murrin Murrin. We must have covered up our dig holes very well for no one else to have found it for 15 years.
Cheers, Jim

Re: Open Digholes
Should delve deeper into digholes.
What do they tell us?
GT saw these and thought junk.
I looked at the vid and thought gold.
Virgin ground with holes that went to bedrock. Tells me gold.
Only going by what i saw above. Cant beat seeing it in real life.
No matter how hard you try to hide your holes, the next big rain shows them up.
They can reveal a patch that might tie up with something else you have worked out for yourself in the area. Lead you on line of strike stuff.
