Best coil for small gold?
Hi folks.
Between the Coiltek 11 " elite, the Nugget Finder 14x9" Evolution and the Nugget Finder 12" evolution coils, which coil would best suit for small gold, shallow and deep?

Re: Best coil for small gold?
The 11" Elite was finding gold in the gram range at depth but wasn't very stable, its a shame as I did like its performance so we switched to the Evo.The Evo is very highly sensitive to small gold towards its centre both deep and shallow but at a slight loss of edge sensitivity on the perimeter.
Oddly enough we have now reverted back to our 8"mono's in FG timing to get the last remaining scraps out of our patches. These coils are remarkable so I have just completed rebuilding my old 8" commander to make it very stable and about to test run it.Unfortunately the dam car at the moment doesn't want to co-operate with my plan looks like the head gasket this time.

Re: Best coil for small gold?
hey mate I use the 12 evo on my 5000 and I doubt ( from experience with boath coils) you will not beat the evo small gold deep and stable I cant fault it,cheers joe.

Re: Best coil for small gold?
Any news on this subject ?
I have worn out my favorite 10"NF and I'm after a bit more from my 4500.
What's the latest and greatest ?

X-coils have a good range of coil for the PI/gpx type detectors,
this link will take you to them.

G'day Joe
hows things going for you.
The coil cables on the new x-coils for gpx PI detectors are much better now, I would say that they are still not as flexible as the evo type coils, but reasonably good now.
The coil cables for the x-coils or GPZ7000 are now very good.
Are you interested in the GPZ or GPX type coils, I now you last tried the GPX on 4500
I have some coils out being used for the GPX4500/5000 now and getting good results, Kalgoorlie WA a gut using the 15x10 spiral on the gpx5000 is having a good time.
First few hours of use in the middle of summer near 40 deg day
cheers dave

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the link.
The real problem with buying a new coil is knowing it is going to be what I need.
It would be very disappointing to spend $650 on a coil that doesn't do any better than what I have.
I've already got half a dozen coils of different size and manufacture, all 6 years old or more and have tested them all on a patch I created in my back yard.
About 10 years ago, I punched different sized pieces of lead into the ground at different depths and at a 45deg angle. Some bits under hot rocks etc.
The litz wire coils really didn't do any better than my favorite old NF10. It has (what I call) a 'hot edge' where I can hear little targets under the edge of rocks,
it gets in really close, important to me as I have found numerous nuggets on flogged ground in close to tree stumps and rocks where I expect others have not
had the sensitivity on the edge of their coils.
So I'm wondering if the search pattern on these spiral wound coils helps or detracts from having a 'hot edge'.
Has anyone else had any experience with these spiral wound coils ? either the x-coils or Nuggetfinder Evolution ? Coiltek elite? or whatever???
Cheers !
PS.. OK, I bought a Nuggetfinder Evolution 12".. It is definitely more powerful than my regular mono coils but the edge is dull.. Can't pinpoint with the edge or get close to rocks and stumps. I guess that's the price you pay.
