I'm after advice or any comments on buying a 4500 to complement a 2300. I have a 2300 and have found small gold , wondering if a 4500 would complement this detector for larger gold on sides of gullys etc, while 2300 is great on old diggings in and around gullys.

Or could the 4500 be set up to find small gold as well as the 2300. The current price of the 4500 is reasonable (3.5k) at the moment so having two is an option.

Thanks

I have not had much to do with the 4500 but it has a reputation of being a good reliable detector for big deep stuff and would be a good companion to the 2300...Although the 45 will find gold down to 0.1g with the right coil and settings combination. So maybe you do not need them both??

Just some thoughts.

These were found on Tuesday with a 4500. The smallest went 0.06gm and the bigger bit was 3.88gm at 300mm deep.

I have both and use both, I love my 14" on my 45, they both have their benefits.

Hi Mvh
This is a great combination. The 14'Elite is a good match you can often negotiate for half price with a new detector.

I still use this combination of the 4500 and 2300, the reason is simple, consistent gold finds, the 4500 will find small to large nuggets with ease, you have to of course pick the coils that work the best, for small gold use small coils like the minelab 8" mono and nuggetfinder 12x7 mono, and also the nuggetfinder 12" round mono, then if you are working open areas use the 14" or 16" nuggetfinder coils, the standard minelab 11" commander mono is a very capable coil on the 4500 particularly in deep variable type of ground so should not be dismissed.

You can still finds quite small nuggets with the 4500, but there are nuggets that it will not see and that's where the 2300 comes in, some spongy nuggets and specimens can be missed that the 2300 will find, also having a small coil tends to slow you down therefore you are better concentrating on working the ground rather than trying to cover large areas like when you are using a large coil.

The 2300 has led me on to patches where it has found tiny pieces first that can easily be missed by the 4500 when gone over with a larger coil, like I said these machines compliment each other and used in combination for different types of ground and conditions have made my gold finds more consistent than they would have been just using the 4500 alone.
