Can you spot the Sun Spot in this pic? Taken yesterday 04/10/20..........Loooook hard grasshoppers

Iv'e got buckleys of seeing it Adrian unless I clean the computer screen

Methinks that we only see part of the picture and what we are looking for is off-screen.

Yes it is sharp eyed grasshopper.

This one was even missed by SDO/HMI (Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager). Yahoo my P900 beat the big boys.

On my IPad it’s pretty much under the L, but I had to enlarge the pic to see the spot and it is very faint.

Yes and is the smallest single spot I have been able to see.

My Currawong mate coming in for his Lunch.
Swoops in over the shed and under the Pergola.

Look at those eyes. Has he got eyes on you as a meal, for a meal? Excellent inflight shot.

That sun spot from the 05 Oct has become larger by heaps.
Pic is a bit fuzzy coz of clouds.
Wish I could afford a H Alpha Filter.

That one is a bit larger than the earth.
What does it mean you may well ask!!??
Might be the end of the last minimum cycle or it might not....So doesn't mean much at all really; Just another sun spot like all the other sun spots that have occurred for the past 5 billion years.

This shot was taken with a P1000 and I have concluded that what I see in the view finder is no representation of what the final pic will look like.

Thanks for that,I thought we might be in for some southern lights but I think they come from the solar flare ups?

Have seen the southern lights once here in castlemaine, we can see mount franklin clearly and a large portion of the southern sky is unimpeded .
It was quite an eerie experience and very mesmerizing .

Look Ma, No wings.

The shutter speed was 2000 sec so those wings must have been flapping at some serious speed.

Well my little mate that I have been feeding for quite  while now is getting bigger and  today decided that my finger was more tasty than a dead cricket and latched onto my finger.

This little turd is starting to give me the irrits. Has started biting the fingers that feed him....Might have to BBQ him.

Our garden Honeyeater chicks are preening their feathers in readiness for first flight.

Why can I not see that little sucker or is that ball of feathers it?

Another little group of S Spots today.

Here is my grumpy pal, although he is becoming a bit more congenial lately and decided to latch onto the cats paw instead of my finger for a change.

Speed brakes and flaps deployed, landing gear down and locked on short landing approach.and nose lowered like on the Concord.

A bit cloudy today but a spot or two quite visible.
The Earth would fit inside the lower spot.

What is a sun spot you may like to ask?
Well! very good question. They are not as yet fully understood.

These little suckers are spread over a length of approx 110,000 km and they are all interacting with each other. The earth is approx 12,800 km in diam.

Sunspots are darker, cooler areas on the surface of the sun in a region called the photosphere.

The photosphere has a temperature of 5,800 degrees Kelvin. Sunspots have temperatures of about 3,800 degrees K. They look dark only in comparison with the brighter and hotter regions of the photosphere around them.

Sunspots can be very large, up to 50,000 kilometers in diameter. (I have seen larger at 76,000 km) They are caused by interactions with the Sun's magnetic field which are not fully understood. But a sunspot is somewhat like the cap on a soda bottle: shake it up, and you can generate a big eruption. Sunspots occur over regions of intense magnetic activity, and when that energy is released, solar flares and big storms called coronal mass ejections (CME's) erupt from sunspots.



The clouds cleared and another spot is forming lower right.
Things are livening up a bit.


These spots are naked eye visable but if you look directly at them you will not see them coz you will have burned out yer eyeballs.

Have ordered a special filter to use in combination with my mylar solar white light filter. Hoping to pick out the granulation.
I cannot justify purchasing a dedicated solar telescope like this.

Now we have another friend. This fella (Butcher Bird) is fairly tame already and almost landed on my head on first arrival.
I think the birds around here have spread the word that we are easy marks for a feed.

Done feeding and heading home for the night, the missus better shake a leg.
