Toyota Hilux 2006 4wd 3 D4D Trouble starting with new key
Just thought i would put this out there as it had me pulling my non existent hair out for a while....
So i got a couple of new keys for the lux off fleabay, swapped the transponder remote control thing over and got them cut by the local locksmith.
Locksmith said to try them out in a door first to make sure they are not too tight as you wouldn't want them getting stuck in the ignition with the starter motor going.
Good advice, and advice i had never heard before.
So i tried them in the passenger door, 1 was a little tight, the other was just ok.
So i try them in the drivers and ignition, both ok as the locks get used a lot more than the passenger door.
Strange thing today, and not having been using the beast since the new keys, i tried using the new key. (both new key and old still on key ring for now)
Car won't start. Starter turning over with great exuberance, probably faster than normal.?!
Couldn't work out what was wrong.
Tried the old key, varroooom.
I find this really bizarre, as there is no issue apart from the key not being as worn.
I wouldn't have thought a tightening of the pins in the lock would cause any electrical issues like this.
Any thoughts?
I guess i will take the keys back to the locksmith and get him to 'wear' them down a bit with the wheel.

I had the same thing forgot to also take the chip out of the old remote (a small black cube thing) thats mounted at the end of the key.

Re: Toyota Hilux 2006 4wd 3 D4D Trouble starting with new key
Ok, did some research based on what you said, and there is a chip set in epoxy? on one side. On the keys i have, they haven't made them to be removable. What a load of codswallop.
Will now have to cut it out with a hacksaw and file back so it fits into the same slot in the new key.... x 2
Now i know why the starter was going fast, immoboliser was on and cutting fuel.
Thanks Deutran.
Any ideas to get the chip out easier?
Was wondering if acetome or something might disolve the epoxy or resin, and not harm the chip?
Cheers. PP.
