Digital Vic maps???
G'day All, I have started to scan and calibrate for OZI the (red) gold & Relic maps produced by Doug Stone. Problem is with an A4 scanner and the maps larger than A3 only a small portion can be scanned at a time.
Does Doug produce a digital map set of these maps????
or
Has anybody already scanned and calibrated these maps successfully?
Cheers

Re: Digital Vic maps???
Hi Goldstalker;
To my knowledge, Doug's maps are not available in a digital format.
It is possible to use an A4 scanner and create 'large maps'.
I have created maps for OziExplorer, the paper version being approximately 1200x900mm.
I tried to detail it here but after 20 minutes I figured my description was too confusing.
I will PM you.
Scrat

Re: Digital Vic maps???
G'day Scrat, Thanks for the info that you sent. Helpful.
However, I have tracked down a laser scanner that will scan a much larger map than the map discussed here. I had one scanned and loaded onto my memory card in a few formats over the weekend.
I have just loaded it into Ozi and calibrated it and seems to be all ok. The field test with the car nav will be the real test before I do all of the complete set.
Cheers

Re: Digital Vic maps???
G'day Mick, Have a read Here. This is a post from Detrackozi on the in car GPS.
I am no expert on the subject and please correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that if you wish to run a mapping program such as OziExplorer on an in-car GPS then the operating system needs to be Windows 5.0 to allow the program to run.
I also run a hand held GPS that I have loaded a few free maps onto. Read more from HERE
To do some more research and find out what you need to know this is a good GPS forum to visit HERE
There are some very helpful people on this gold forum that may be able to answer questions you have also.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

Re: Digital Vic maps???
I find the datum to be slightly out of sync on the doug stone maps. I have scanned a4 sized portions of the maps and then used Gimp to stitch them together into the one file.

Scanning
Last time I needed to scan larger than A4, I went to my local library ... they had a brilliant HUGE scanner!! It did photocopying as well as scanning to file.
If I remember correctly it cost me 10c per humungous page successfully scanned.
Just a thought if you get stuck
Cheers
