Hi all,
noyungan is the handle and I'm new at this. Well past retirement age but what does one do to keep young??
Messed about some 60 odd years ago with panning in Sunshine state . Black sand gave heaps of problems. Always had a thing about gold,, soooo,, when the boom got underway around 79-80 I bought a Garrett green machine and took off for the triangle.. Everybody knew where I'd been cause it looked like a plowed paddock!!!
Yeah, dug everything. Found nice gold, not a lot, got bottles of coins, medals, tokens and a drawer full of heavy items like musket balls, bullets, shells, heal plates off miner's boots, couple of clay pipes, one had the stem gone, and other paraphernalia which must have weighed a ton cause the draw I threw them in collapsed!! Thems were the days!! Family matters brought me back Qld around 89 and lived the quiet life until I year ago when the itch got to me and gold filled my dreams...Not having much in the finance dept anymore I bought a well used 3000 but never got to use until last December. Memories of the ear shattering garrett faded into oblivion as I fiddled with the 3000. Sadly I didn't spend a great deal of time swinging the wand over the few weeks but it did latch on to a minuscule bit that made my day and made me feel a lot younger than I am. Great stuff. Better than fishing where one has to throw back the small fish but one can keep the small bits of gold!! Great stuff!!
I,ve found this forum not only informative but enjoyable so register I did..
It's almost eleven PM ---bedtime. Hooroo and goodnight-- golden dreams.. goldenage.

Welcome to the site mate. There a lot of oldies here not only when they registed but also about the age. I know I'm one (69 this year). I to had a 3000 and got a lot of gold. Not enough to pay for it but gold just the same. With the new machine coming out there will be a good oppertunity to pick up a good 5000 cheap. A lot better that the 3000. Anyway mate enjoy the forum and anytime your down the Triangle way look me up. We can talk about the days when we were all young and the simple things of life then.

Hi Noyungan
Welcome aboard..
Its a bugger when that happens, you type up a nice long reply, and the computer, cracks it!!
only for it to disappear into what I call it..
Cyber space, it just goes poof! It's all gone..
Nothing to do but start over..
So what I do is I type it up in note pad or whatever , copy it then paste it back here..
Or if I type it here I copy it, before I send it.. so if it does disappear, all I have to do is re paste it. Very Happy

Goodmorning all forumers,

Hi Jen,
Not being a puter buff I was somewhat non- plussed when after doing a long reply to all who encouraged me, to have it all go, as you say, poof! First thought was I'd waffled on too much about a few highlights of dabbling in prospecting years ago. Maybe all that went poof! is in the puter somewhere but can't find it.. Maybe I need to hire some kindergarten kid--- they seem to be up on all things electronic Laughing
Family reasons had me back to Qld 25 odd years ago and things suddenly went into a severe reverse which I hope is now all behind me.
I am convinced the fever never really leaves us- it just goes on the back burner for a time. So-- anew start but old detector. Nevertheless, my second hand 3000 did pick up a small bit in December although I must say it was on the 2nd last day of holidays that I felt I was learning to tune it properly. In the early days with the Garrett green machine I used to be disappointed picking up stuff smaller than 8 or 9 grams and now to have the 3000 find a bit much, much, much smaller demonstrates to me that maybe it's not which PI we use but how we tune it to the ground we're on.. Undoubtedly the GPX's are more advanced , easier to operate, but again I feel tuning is the key....any comment??
Toodle loo...noyungan.

Hej noyungan,

Ground balancing is definitely very important to do properly bur then there are also many factors to be successful and find that little yellow metal.

I use to have 3000 and ground balancing was little bit of pain.

With gpx machines ground balancing is much easier to do.

From your days sure now is harder to find gold. But little bit of research, learning machine ,conditions, sets up, ground reading and help with more experienced mates make it little bit easier.

The man thing for me is to enjoy it.If you enjoy and love what you do then you are in the right spot.

Good luck with gold hunting.

Hi there golden,
enjoyed your encouraging words, and yes, whether one is finding tiddly bits or none at all the secret is to find enjoyment in what one is doing. After swinging the wand for a couple of hours I take a break, pour a coffee and smell the euky on the air, watch the tree leaves as they shimmy in the breezy sunlight and not another sound to break the silence of the bush.. pure golden moments!!!! These moments make the gram or sub-gram pieces seem to be oz nuggets!!
And yes I agree the sizable gold is mostly gone and that fact must give credit to the early machines which must appear almost crude compared to the PI's of today...nevertheless, those little ones we now glean add lustre to the enjoyment of the tranquillity and beauty of the bush.... Thanks again,,,, noyungan.

HI Dave (cadian)
Thanks for your reply... I've bin viewing the forums for a little while but never game enough to register!!
I'm happy to have done so now but not being very puter literate I can get into all sorts of fixes..even have trouble with the mobile phone now and then Laughing
Take yesterday as an example:- Had the NBN installed and then got on the puter,,,After I turned it on nothing went the way it should,, even tried the sticky key thing and still no action,, then I wanted to turn it off and nothing happened Idea so I took its battery out so as I could go to bed without a present worry silent
Anyway its working OK tonight... Yeah-- like they say--- "some touch cowsh and it turns to gold,, some touch gold and it turns to cowsh". Aint complaining, I've had a good time in the past and I'll have a good time again Very Happy
Dave,,I'm Carl, and you indicate you're no youngen , and that's great as some reckon we have to keep going to keep going and there's no better way to keep going than exercising optimism . That attitude has done wonders for
me and can help to a fulfilling life. Now-- where is that humungus nugget??? cheers hooroo,, noyungan...
