Loading Ozraster maps into Garmin GPS
Almost certain this has come up and although did a search could not find the thread so my apologies.
Have a Garmin 450t Oregon and the Ozraster NSW map on a thumbdrive.
The topo maps on the Garmin are pretty useless and would like to load the Ozraster maps onto it.
Can this be done?
A few flying instructions would be appreciated as am not a computer guru.
Thanks for any help.
Cheers

Re: Loading Ozraster maps into Garmin GPS
G'day mullockgrubber
If they work on Oziexplorer they should work on the Garmin. We have Garmin etrex30 and all the Natmap topo and Geo maps that work on Ozie work on it. We just put them on and SD card and fit that into the garmin and then point the garmin to the SD card and all is well.
So copy the files you have to an SDcard or microSD card depends which one yours takes, and give it a go.
cheers dave

Thanks Dave, appreciate your response. Now I know it can be done will give it a go as having the good topo maps would be a great help.
When I get it done will put something up here for the benefit of others.
The so called topo map that come with the Garmin are pretty hopeless.
Cheers

G'day mullockgrubber
Errr.....sorry mate I've given you a incorrect info, we were away and I though that is what we did, but on getting home I discovered my error, we have the Topo Australia & New Zealand for the Garmin which we bought at the same time, most likely the same as yo have.
It is the tablet and the smart phone we have the Oziexplorer maps running on.
The Garmin has the ability to add maps but we have not done it, maybe Detrack can help with this little problem.
cheers dave
PS: have found this link and some good info there.

Re: Loading Ozraster maps into Garmin GPS
Hi Mullockgrubber,
You will be able to load your Ozraster maps onto your Oregon 450t but you need to convert them to KMZ ( google earth ) format first. You can then put them in your "custom map" folder on your Garmin. The easiest way I have found to convert maps is using a program called Global Mapper, however it will not load the later version of .ozfx3 format files for my Ozraster maps so you need to convert them back to a standard map with Oziexplorer ( .bmp or .png ) and then load and convert them in Global Mapper.
Send me a PM if you get stuck, I can send some converted maps your way.
