Warranty claim by Coiltek Manufacturing
Just thought I'd share a personal good news story with all here. A little while ago, I bought a brand new, but old stock coil off a dealer. It was a Coiltek 24x14 coil. I was very excited and on my first outing I put the coil on and started to swing away. I hadn't gone 50 meters when the excessive ground noise made me return to the car and substitute the coil for my regular 15x12, that made virtually no ground noise on the soil. Next trip I tried again and same result as last time, the noise was driving me batty, to the point where I had to dumb down the 45 to a gain of 5 or even 4, just to get a sort of decent enough threshold. None of my other coils did this so I was a little confused as to why this coil was behaving badly as it was new. I called Coiltek Manufacturing and explained my issue and the chap I spoke to said, no problem, send it in and we'll look at it and fix it if it needs fixing. Once it got to Coiltek, very soon afterwards I received a phonecall to tell me that they found the coil to be noisier than they liked and that they were sending me back a brand new coil, and they even threw in the skid plate from my previous twice used coil as a spare. Next day it was in my hands. So I just wanted to say thanks to Coiltek Manufacturing as this was extremely good service, extremely fast service, and I didn't have to sit there and try and convince them or prove my point, they quickly tested it, diagnosed that there was an issue and replaced it no further questions asked. Full marks for customer service and full recommendation to potential buyers.

Re: Warranty claim by Coiltek Manufacturing
Deja Vu
Purchased a Coiltek 16" Goldstalker Mono yesterday & took it out today. Unbearably noisy! Tried lowering gain etc.& could get it to run a little quiter in enhance but every blade of grass or rock still made it go off. Forget the skidplate you couldn't run this thing on the ground. Had to hover about 1" above the ground to be able to use it at all. Put on my NF 14"x7" & the 5000 immediately ran smooth as for the rest of the day.
Back to the shop tomorrow - hopefully I get it sorted like you Costas but at the moment I am thinking about getting a refund & buying another brand!
1.5 hr drive to find the bigger coil I got for that area was a lemon - not happy.

Hi Mbasko
I've tried 2 brand new goldstalkers,a 14 and 18 round plus I bought the 22 round. They were all perfect with no problem at all.Sounds like a quality control issue.

Re: Warranty claim by Coiltek Manufacturing
A lot has happened since then mbaskoII, so the follow up to the story is...
The first coil had gone back and was happily changed over for a new one. I took this out and it worked absolutely perfect for 2.5 hours. Couldn't have asked for a quieter more responsive coil, it was a pleasure to use...and then after the 2.5 hours, all of a sudden it just became noisy and bump sensitive, VERY HEARTBREAKING. Then another phonecall back to Coiltek Manufacturing to which they weren't quite as happy as the first time to receive the complaint. Took about 3 weeks this time for them to send me No.3 coil. Now I finally managed to take this new No.3 coil out for a swing a few weeks ago....it does work ok and it isn't too bad BUT it is nowhere near as quiet as the No.2 coil was for it's first 2.5 hours of use before it died, when it purred like a kitten. So basically I have a coil that I feel is probably about 80% as good as the No.2 coil was, so is that good enough??? It's not a lemon and it still picks up, it's just more "noisy" than the No.2 coil was and it makes me second-guess and recheck too many noises as I'm swinging away, hence defeating the purpose of putting a bigger coil on to quickly explore new ground.
So I'm a little unhappy with the inconsistency and the run of bad luck that I've had and my final position of having to settle for something that I believe is not quite 100% of what it could/should be.

Re: Warranty claim by Coiltek Manufacturing
Quick update: Coiltek are sending me a new coil which is good. Should have it next week so hopefully there are no more issues like you're experiencing Costas?
Deutran - I had previously ran Coiltek coils on my old SD2200D, Joey 10x5 DD & 14" round DD pro elite. Both worked flawlessly so thought I'd try the 16" goldstalker out at a much lower price than a NF. Since having the GPX though I had only previously used NF aftermarket coils without a problem. Hopefully like you say its a quality control issue & the new one is good. Was looking forward to swinging a bigger coil about in some open areas to cover ground quicker but like Costas says pretty pointless if spurious sounds pull you up all the time.
When I get a chance to swing it I'll let ya's know how it goes.

Re: Warranty claim by Coiltek Manufacturing
I spoke to Trevor from Coiltek Manufacturing about a coil that I bought second hand but was only used very little, the previous owner said that it was noisy so he bandaged the coil up which made the coil less noisy. Anyway, Trevor said that the warranty is not transferable so send it in to us for a cost to get it fixed. I was gutted to hear that reply from them, so now the coil is just gathering dust. If this was a Nugget Finder coil, I'm sure the reply would have been more pleasing.
Business is business but when you get bad service, this type of treatment will eventually hurt business in the long run.

Re: Warranty claim by Coiltek Manufacturing
Hi Uncle Bob,
Our Policy is that warranty is non-transferable and we discussed your option of returning the coil for inspection and review which you have not taken up.
Maybe you can still send it in for review as we do not charge anything until we have assessed and then call to discuss the option and pricing if out of warranty.
If other brands wish to replace coils out of warranty that is fine however we have a great reputation on our service and pride ourselves on good customer contact. We encourage any with issues to contact us straight away if they feel they need to however we cannot just replace a coil which has been purchased second hand.
I am sorry you believe that we have provided you bad service and hope you decide to send in the coil for review.
Regards,
Trevor

same good news story
I can also claim a good news story for coiltek as I returned a few months ago two coils, a 14x9 (1 yr old) and a 16 round mono (3 mths old), both in warranty had become very bump sensitive and noisy. Coiltek don't make the 16 round so they replaced it with an 18 mono and they are sending a 14x9 when stocks arrive. Not sure about the quality control but their customer relations is working well. Also because I didn't have the use of these coils I reverted back to the minelab 11 mono. I actually came to like it as a very stable and competent coil and maybe somewhat under rated.

Re: Warranty claim by Coiltek Manufacturing
Yes maybe it was bad luck, maybe coiltek are dealing with some issues. Who knows. I'm sure they will sort them out. But they were very approachable and bent over backwards to be helpful and you can't really ask for any more than that of a company. I can say that both coils were pretty good until they got noisy.

Hey Bob, can I ask why you bought a second hand coil knowing it was faulty??
If I buy a second hand product knowing it's faulty, I can't expect to get it fixed under warranty can I?
I might take my secondhand Cruiser into Toyota and tell them to fix it!

I bought a used gpx 5000 with a few coils so I couldn't just leave it behind

Re: Warranty claim by Coiltek Manufacturing
Update on the faulty coiltek coil.
Just by chance I found that the coil cable where it connects with to the coil housing had a split cable that could be barely seen where wires were exposed.
Anyway, contacted coiltek and sent it to them and they have now replaced it with a new coil, so thank you Coiltek.
As I said before, where is quality control?
At the end of the day it costs both parties time and $$.
So who suffers the most from these experiences??
