another newbie
Hey there,
As a newbie myself but having learned a lot I offer the following advice;
1. Learn the detector to death...study the manual and play with the machine till your blue in the face...
2. Go anywhere there are goldfields...there are no "secret spots" (yes there are !)
3. Your first day out is to learn the machine. Take big and small bits of lead. Bury them at different depths and play with ALL the settings. Spend a lot of time doing this as you will miss gold if you dont. I only have an AT Gold and a year on I am still learning the machine and they are much simpler than a 5000..
4. Once the above is done GO SLOW...
Remember...If you are finding old bullets and casings that means no one has ever swung a detector over that particular spot......
Good Luck....

Re: Golden triangle advice
If you're a total newbie, rather than playing round with "all the settings", I'd be sticking with the settings provided by the blokes you hire the detector from.
Good luck

Re: Golden triangle advice
Look for state forrest, less chance of straying onto private property. Anywhere in the Golden Triangle. Gold occurs all over the towns and surrounds of the golden triangle. There is no good spot for beginners, you have a good chance anywhere in that area. People find gold in areas its never been found, and people find gold in areas that have been flogged to death. Spend more time walking and less time worrying if you are in the right area. If you are in the golden triangle, you are in the right area.
No one will give you an X marks the spot. The golden triangle is the spot. Good luck out there. Remember, low and slow.

Re: Golden triangle advice
G'day Rickchampion,
You maybe able to hire a detector from Bendigo Gold World, Gold Search Dunolly or Coiltek Gold Centre Maryborough.
Good luck out there.

Re: Golden triangle advice
If you are getting those items, detector is working. Now you just need to walk over a nugget
You'll probably find at least 5 bullets before you strike a nugget. At least 5. Took me about 50 bullets I think.

Re: Golden triangle advice
Day two done and dusted. More bullets. No nuggets, tried 4 different places. A couple looked like the min with all the craters. Dejected but not defeated. One more day left

Re: Golden triangle advice
Well at least you found something..
It might not of been yellow.. Doesn't matter..
There always Next time..
We always say if lead was worth more than gold, we would be rich.
Hmmm buttons, and coins they are good to find.. Sounds like you might have been in the right area.
If they were from the old timers..
Study any maps you have for your next attack out in the gold fields..
And good luck for when you do get out again..
