Golden Triangle
Hey Claimpeg, I'm from Bendigo also. Wedderburn is one of the biggiest ever alluvial diggings townships. This area has been scratched quite often from people out of town because of this reason. Sure there is plenty around still. The road leading north-west out of Wedderburn, these diggings spread about 10km past Wedderburn (north).
P.S Google Earth - Google Community (i), is everyones friend.
Going out to scratch some areas around that res. tomorrow. Let you know if I can find that patch (fresh holes).

Re: gold north of Wedderburn
yep agree is gold all around wedderburn, talking to one of the full timers living in the van park a few months ago and he reckons the closer to town the better (says he would like to pull up the main street) as wedderburn was built on the richest deposits, regards, gary

We were there recently for the gold dig, only had 4 hours to spare outside of the gold dig, went for an off the main road drive about 5 ks west of town ,picked a scrubby spot around a dry wash out, scored 2 for 1.5g, so into the gps for next years gold dig, scored some good company too in the 3 days we were there, phill

Re: gold north of Wedderburn
Wedderburn is the most minerlised area I have ever detected , drove me crazy with false signals.
Found the detection depth was greatly reduced also due to the ground type.
Is a very interesting place to check out but some of the new people living out that way are weird.
By saying weird I mean ,don't say hello back in passing and are quick to get their guns out to scare you away
even when you are on crown land detecting.
Left a bad taste in my mouth but the real locals are fine and said they
and are having the same troubles with this mob of losers.
Don't think that I'm being a bit harsh but when you have had shots
going over your head like I did last time over there you will soon
understand where I'm coming from.

Re: gold north of Wedderburn
Just got home from 3 days at Wedderburn. The place I've done most of my swinging in Victoria. Never have any trouble with either locals or anyone else. Always see others out in the bush. Always a wave and a bit of a yarn if they are close to the road when passing. Like detectorists anywhere, of course they are not going to put you on their hot spots, but have generally found the locals at the caravan park or the pub to be sociable and helpful within limits.
This trip stayed at the motel. The new owners are doing good things. Great meals at the motel restaurant, cheaper and better than the pub.
However, one peice at 0.25 grams, and a 1953 penny for my bride, says I'm just about over Wedderburn. Until next time the urge bites.
I like the place.
Cheers
Jeff

Claimpeg have you seen the Gold & Relic Sites map by Doug Stone?, He has one of Wedderburn. These maps are always a good place to start as a reference.
