GPX 4000 doesn't seem to get much action
Hello,
I am wondering why there isn't much discussion on the GPX4000 (12 months in this section), I have been researching my first detector and found a lot of information on the GP3500, GPX4500 and GPX5000 but not much around the 4000. I'm only asking as I have seen a few sell for around the $3.1k - $3.6k and there is another for sale for $3.3k on this site, this fits into the price range I am thinking I could comfortably spend however i'm concerned that there doesn't seem to be much activity from GPX4000 Users. I live in Victoria so would need to be suited to conditions here, I could go for the GP3500 and save a few dollars but you always read about buying the best you can afford but in this instance I cant find enough information to determine if it's worth it.
Brad

Re: GPX 4000 doesn't seem to get much action
The 4000 has a lot more tools on board than the 3500 has, and would be a much better choice. Out of all those tools, it has Sensitive smooth which was responsible for opening up old ground making them new again.I cant find enough information to determine if it's worth it.
While you may save a few dollars on the older model, the guy who buys the 4k will be paying his off sooner.
Nothing wrong with a good ol 3500 mind you.....it just lacks a few mod cons.
Its worth it....and mine payed for it self a few times over. Id have no probs if i had to go back to a 4k...but id give the game away if i had to go back to a GP series detector.
Good luck with your decision.
Re: GPX4000 doesn't seem to get much action
The GPX4000 is a very good detector for the money. I have had one for 2 years and have been very happy with it's performance in Victoria.
See posts under General Discussion GPX4000 a few days ago.
I needed a booster to make it really good with either headphones or a speaker as the 4000 battery does not have an inbuilt amp. Super sound Detacc make one specifically for the 4000.

Sounds like add a booster and they are ok, that's good as they are around the $$ Ballpark I am willing to spend on a first detector

Re: GPX 4000 doesn't seem to get much action
I used to have the GPX4000 for a while. Only sold it because I wanted to spend the money on the Gold Hog, however ....
If you go to the Minelab site, there used to be a link to the GPX4000 Users Manual ... pretty good! ... BUT if you search & keep your eyes open for the DVD, BUY IT!!!! It is more than worth the money ... it shows you the secrets to the 4000 ... one of which will make it rival the 5000 around power lines/electrical interference etc. You will never again have to keep away from the powerlines, and you can detect to your heart's content when 5000 owners are going home shaking their heads at the EMI
Congratulations & good hunting

Hi,
I had my 4000 for 6 years and did well with it. Very good machine.
Updated to a 5000 and have kept my 4000 as a spare.

Re: GPX 4000 doesn't seem to get much action
I miss the times I had with my 4000.
I found beautiful pieces with it.
It ran amazingly smooth and to date, it has found me the deepest nuggets.
I've owned the 3000, 4000, 4500, 5000 & currently the 7000.
I wish I'd kept it, it was one of those 'good ones'.
Killer combination on the 4000 I found was the coiltek 18 x 12" mono goldstalker in sensitive smooth found nice DEEP pieces up to 2.5 ounces.

Re: GPX 4000 doesn't seem to get much action
good on ya mate, ya wont be upset with the 4000!!! little tip when in hot ground running in sens extra and getting a target swap to sens smooth and cross check if its gone its ground but always investigate none the less as extra should be deeper than smooth and a faint target response in extra may not be herd in smooth so always take the top off 2-3inches??? good luck with the 4 you will love it
