Been thinking of doing a prospecting trip over to WA this year but going
through the checklist have and have hit a familiar stumbling block
Have everything to go including a fully set up new 4WD except can't take
enough time off away from my business to drive over, detect for around 6
days and drive back, also the not knowing where to go to have a
reasonable chance to pull a few nice bits of yellow.
My best option would be a fly in and fly out situation and pay for a 6
day trip to be taken out with someone experienced and responsible with
approved access to a good proven area to detect.
My situation won't change for many years and still have 20 + years to go
before retirement so no threat to coming back myself and hammering any
shown areas.
I don't need any training or detector just everything else to be set up
at the WA end.
The obvious answer would be to book an all exclusive tour but checking
has shown they are once again fully booked.
I normally travel over the border from SA to the Vic triangle which is
easy and simply book accommodation/camp and have reasonable success in
finding a few nice small nuggets each year but are looking for something
a bit different this year.
I saw a listing on ebay with such a trip but don't know who he is and
thought the 3K for a weeks detecting was a bit steep considering the
flight costs to be added in which would push things closer to 4K for a
weeks detecting.
Anyway thought I would throw that out there and see if someone over in
the west is interested in doing a paid trip or knows someone who does
this.
Maybe the lack of time I have available would not be worthwhile to
consider a trip like this but I'm sure some of you guys over there will
be able to put me strait.
One thing that I must be crystal clear on ,is I'm Not interested in
stealing someone else s gold or be involved with a shonky risk taking
operator or most importantly be a target of opportunity for some scammer
to which I can assure you will not happen .
Cheers Mark

hi mark
that bloke charging $3000 takes you to about nine or ten differant places that are a long way apart,
the way i see it you would be traveling for six days and detecting for one, huge waste of money.
hope you find something better
cheers

for 4k you may be better off shipping your car in advance, or paying a mate/or trusted person to drive it there for you and then catch a flight at the last minute to meet up, and then doing the reverse on the way home.
We have to do this sort of thing when filming interstate and need specific vehicles from here on the job....... works fine.

Harb as you seem to have done this for your filming, what cost was it and for what.
I dabbled in the idea of doing this myself (shipping the car/trailer to WA and flying to pick it up) but when the bloke said $8G i said gee that's cheap, does that include return as well ? Nope.
So sorta ending there.
Would be interested in what your experiences are with doing this.

John

I'm interested in transporting a 4wd over as well any info would be great.

Of course if it's too expensive i will go with my plan b which involves
towing a car trailer up to granites place and hooking it on to the back
of his camper putting the cruiser on it and beeping the horn every now
and then so he thinks i'm a tailgater. Save some money on cd's too. Detecting in WA , info requested Icon_lol Detecting in WA , info requested Icon_lol

Why dont you hook up with someone that could drive your 4wd to an airport close to the goldfields, for an example say another person whos keen as mustard to go to wa but dosnt own a 4wd or the capital to get there, get them to drive your car to a regional airport in the wa goldfields, it wouldnt cost much to get them covered with insurance $200 maybe, forget paying thousands of dollars thats out right crazy, there must be a few people keen to go wa and it may be safer with atleast one other person incase bitten or breaking a leg far from the car. or falling down a hole which can happen anywhere more likely here in vic with all the grass covering some deep bastards, must be someone in south australia heading over,

Thanks for the ideas , I would have thought there would have been more operating tours out of the goldfields in WA and I'm sure there would be many in the same boat as me and an business opportunity out there to boot for the people in the know.
I'm not that keen even to let the misses drive my vehicle so the supplying a new 4WD to someone to take up wouldn't work for me.
It's one thing to simply fly back home if something goes pair shaped but to lose a vehicle is something else.
Looks like the best option would be to book for 2011 and do the closer Vic fields again this season.

mark hi
if you are keen to go to wa for 6 days you could do it if you really had the motivation.hire a troopy, pick up at perth airport.book into leonora pub or wiluna pub or coolgardie pub or where ever you wanted to go,then all you have to take is a few clothes and your detector.

Good Day

Finders Keepers only do short one day tours and tours to the Superpit. They do not have the facilities to do longer tours!

Best

MS,
Travelling to WA any which way for 6 days detecting would be an absolute waste of money. Detecting in WA , info requested Icon_eek
Save your money and your annual leave and make it a month and you may be lucky.

MS lives in south Australia hes in pretty good position to do a hit and run raid but it would take 2 days driving which leaves only four days to come up with the goods with out knowing the ground eg the ground thats been flogged again and again, 4 days would be too short like nightjar says.

Re Nightjar / Madtuna
I guess I already new the answer in regards to my chances in finding something worthwhile in WA on 6 days detecting , I wish I could get more time away from my business but thats about the best I can do at this stage, I do envy you guys living over there and to the ones retired and prospecting for a whole season , have you ever thought of fishing or some other hobby that can keep you away from those nuggets, atleast till I get a chance to get over there and pull a few for myself Detecting in WA , info requested Icon_cheers

As for QLD it's about the same for me in distance and for the NSW fields you guys over there seem to have that covered fairly well.
Even though the vic fields have been worked hard for many years the furtherest fields from Melb are the closest for me as I cross the border.
Also there are lots of large areas open to detecting so thats were I have been focusing on, even though I can only grab a week at a time I can do this 4 times a year and on a push a bit more.
The SA fields for weekends are OK for practice but are very small and only find something small every now and then.
One spot over here was going well but when it's gone thats it.
