camping at clermont
I am trying to plan a camping trip for the family at Clermont in September. Is camping allowed anywhere except the caravan park? would love to hear peoples experiences at clermont and what areas are everyones favourites? Also, where do you get fossicking kits?
thanks.
thanks.

Re: camping at clermont
Hi, when I went to Clermont, all the Information and kits and like minded prospectors were at the caravan park, sooo, I think that I met the great people of the detector hobby in the one place.
Go with the flow when you are there.

Camping at Clermont
Well, there is no longer any info at the Caravan Park, there is a prospectors shop in Herschell St Clermont that issue 2 licences, one is Qld Prospectors licence and the other is Clermont licence to fossick in the general permission areas (GPA). They are Minelab agents and have a good selection of equipement. You are not allowed to camp in the GPA's although weve seen a couple well into the bush set up even with a motor home !
You will be able to camp at Terresa creek dam where site ares available, about 20 ks out of town. There have been some good finds of gold recently although small pickers. One prospector got a 4 ounce piece on Iclere but you have to pay $600 to fossicke there.
Hope this helps

Clermont camping
G'day
Non powered camping at the caravan park is $ 10 per night
It's a little dry dusty area , but camp kitchen & toilet / shower nearby
Theresa creek dam , as mentioned , is 22 km's from town
$10 per night , there is a kiosk & nice area

Cheers for the input everyone! Theresa Dam sounds like the go! The pics look really nice and heaps to keep 2 young teenagers and 2 littlies under 4 occupied for a week. How far is Mcmasters from the dam? or what is the closest gpa to the dam?
cheers

Cheers Artrix
Will check it out, like to spend a little money and support the small towns but rather camp in the bush.

Re: camping at clermont
no problem cant exactly say were it is but its not that far away from the mcmasters turn off. we camped on the left hand side going back into town...........you can drive behind it there is a track from memory. We just swagged it next to a cattle fence. Good luck finding it. the high side of the cutting is only 3 or 4 metres high.

Re: camping at clermont
Mossies were about so ended up at the caravan park, grass quite long in most areas. Weather was nice and warm with a pleasant breeze most of the day.
Six small bits. Two pieces weighed 0.09 grams one down nearly two inches. 1.6 grams total. The big pieces have better hiding spots.
Anyways, first trip to Clermont so all good.

Clermont 8-13 July
Hi Peoples'
I will be heading up on Sunday 7 July to Clermont (8 to 13) staying on a GPA that was advertised in Gold Gem and Treasure. Anyone know of this area at all, and is there much in the way of gold on those GPA's to detect?
Would appreciate any info on the GPA's advertised in the GGT magazine.

Re: camping at clermont
Just returned from Clermont Qld. I’ll have a go at giving some info to above queries -
- The caravan park and Outback Prospector detecting shop no longer issue Qld Fossickers Licence so you need to get one/family permit on line. Print it off and carry it with you as the Rangers are actively checking people have them - https://www.qld.gov.au/recreation/activities/areas-facilities/fossicking/licences-permits/purchase
- Camping is not permitted in Qld State Forests. Camping is available in the Clermont caravan park and Theresa Creek dam but the dam is a considerable distance from the GPA’s so trips there & back add up in time and fuel.
- There is (free) camping permitted on/near a stock route at Black Ridge GPA off the Great Inland Way north west of Clermont (I’ve not camped there), no facilities at all. You can overnight camp at the BP Roadhouse, this may help you do a reccie before you decide where to camp. Drinking water taps are located near Hoods Lagoon, near windmill, in Drummond Street and some rubbish bins here. There is a dump point at the Theresa Crk Dam and in 9-11 Lime St, Clermont. There is a seed wash facility where you can hose down your vehicle near the Showgrounds/ Council Depot (follow large signs). Town has fuel, IGA x 2, pharmacy and most facilities.
- gold detecting for a fee (I think $25 per day) on Cockatoo Lease is available- contact Barry Chapman Ph Mobile 0417 331 420. Barry works the lease and phone reception is poor so maybe best to call him early evening. No detecting where he is mining. This is place advertised in Gold Gem & Treasure.
- you can get maps of the GPA’s from the local Isaac Council Office for a fee $5 for printing or they are available online here - https://www.qld.gov.au/recreation/activities/areas-facilities/fossicking/central-gold
- my experience detecting at McMasters was I suffered several bush tick bites. They were tiny ticks about the size of a flea. Bite site remained itchy for about a month. Suggest you spray Bushmans on your shoes/ clothing before setting out and keeping clothes outside your tent/van after you finish for the day.
