Newbie but unclear where i am allowed to Pan
Howdy,
I am new to prospecting and am unsure where i am allowed to Pan, The DPI website states "Prospecting is permitted in most State Forests, many Reserves" but then i read other places and it say only in designated areas but i can find any information on them .... I am looking for somewhere i can start out around the Stawell area. Can i just find any creek and give it a go ??
Any Info would be much appreciated.

Yes you can
yes you can pan in State Forests BUT! make sure you know the waterway that you're dipping into and don't pick one that's on the restricted list on the DPI website quoted earlier. For example Jones Creek at Waanyarra which is in the Dunolly State Forest

I've always had trouble finding a creek/river in the GT that isn't on the banned list, that has water in it.
They would be better of publishing a list that you CAN prospect in.
