Ripped Patches ?
Hi all, we have all come across and worked the bulldozed patches in the scrub were the top few inches or so has been taken off but lately I've come across several patches that have been ripped with a dozer but not then scraped off just left ripped. any clues as to why someone would rip only.
Cheers Peter

Re: Ripped Patches ?
Gday Peter
Gims right its done for rehabilitation, the ground is ripped into furrows so that plant seeds are exposed, and will also blow into them from the surrounding area, eventually after getting covered with a layer of sand and dust, and some rain they will germinate and eventually the spot will have a covering of vegetation.
You wont see it much on scraped patches as usually they are scraped to bed rock so there is little or nothing for the plants to grow in.
Some areas are done not only to rehab drillers tracks but are also being done to hide access tracks to old mines and previously worked areas by station owners, then they will run the fence through it where the gate was and eventually the spot will not be visible any more.
These ripped spots are usually worth detecting in any gold bearing area, as sometimes they will produce some nuggets, I have found pieces sitting on the surface and also sticking out of the side walls of the furrows, any form of disturbance of the ground is worth investigating even newly scraped roadsides etc.
cheers
