SD 2100 questions
G'day all,
I've been lurking here for a couple of weeks. I have committed to taking up detecting and am finally organised enough to do something about it. A new machine will likely come in the next year or so, but to start with I thought a second hand machine will tell me if I,m heading in the right direction.
I know nothing about detecting, so I find the forum extremely infomative.
An SD2100 has become available and I have some questions for the brains trust, if you would be so generous as to part with some valuable info.
I have been devouring all the information I can get (you know the type, engineering head, obsessive compulsive once committed.ha ha) and have read all of the posts in this very informative forum on the SD series. Boy you blokes get right into it dont you!
A question I have not been able to find the answer to is how to identify the 2100 from the v2 and is there much difference betwen the two? It is mentioned that the 2200s and v2 were green and blue. Does that apply to the 2100 series? Probably more to the point is, is one of them to be avoided? or are they both capable machines?
The other question is regarding the price. The machine comes with an 18" an 11" and an 8" mono and 11"DD coils. It has a separate 12volt battery. Im assuming with a regulator? and headphones.
Would $900 be a fair price for this set up?
Thanks for your time.
Lucky

Re: SD 2100 questions
Hi,
The price appears quite good. I recently sold my 2100V2 with Wireless battery pack and 2 coils for much more. Mine was a late model (2007) I think and with DD coils it ran very smooth & quiet in noisy ground. I never had the opportunity of running in mono as all the ground up here is noisy. The only thing that irked me was the awkwardness of the ground balance.

Re: SD 2100 questions
Hi Lucky 992
to the forum. You seem to be getting quite a few things there, certainly value for money for a 2100. The green/blue box thing holds true with the 2100s as well with the green being the original and the blue being the V2. Some people say that the original ones are the best, but others say that the blue boxes had more new electronics, so they are better. For that price, whichever machine it is with all those coil extras, you wont be loosing come resale time. As the SDs dont have all the fancy filters of the newer machines, the number one rule to follow (& I often forget this myself), is Low and Slow, especially if you plan to use the mono coils.
Good luck and good hunting.

SD 2100 questions
Greetings and welcome to the fold.......................................
Re: the 2100.....if it's good working order (are you buying it from someone you know?)....it is a steal at that price......the first question I usually ask myself when buying 2nd hand is,will I get most of my money back when I sell......in your case you will make a double whammy profit....ie the machine without the small coil will fetch $1600 and the coil sold seperately is worth $120 (so in actual fact you are getting the 21 for $780)......................................nice one!
The 21 is a good machine and has found heaps of gold.
The 12v battery will be regulated to 7.3v......it's a bit like carrying a brick around if it's the lead acid type,
so you will be better off with a Reeds Lucky Lark later on.
Anyway, good luck & lot's of fun.
Be aware if the unit has been modified from standard that Minelab will not repair it.

Re: SD 2100 questions
Thanks for taking the time to reply and for the welcome.
I have taken your collective wisdom on board and purchased the 2100.
It turns out it is the first green model. It has the original manual with it as well as a booster I didnt mention earlier, some Qld maps and a bag. Apparently it was owned by a bloke who has lived in Qld and moved down here recently to retire. Anyone you know?
The shop I bought it from said that he said it had paid for itself over and over.
Lets hope I can do it justice.
Keep up the great postings. ( I love the ctx3030 review)
Thanks again
