Gps and Oziexplorer Moving Map
I hope that someone can help me out here.
I have a netbook and Garmin e-trex Legend GPS. When I download my waypoints onto my computer they all appear on the correct position on the map. (In Oziexplorer that is.)
However, when I switch on my Moving Map, the cursor (red arrow) of the moving map appears in the wrong position. How do I fix this.
I have been the configuration a hundred times, compared it with the ones of friends and still can't get it right. I am sure that I am missing a simple setting somewhere!
Any help from the Gurus?

Re: Gps and Oziexplorer Moving Map
Morning Kudu,
If I am understanding what you are saying, the moving map curser it not showing your current position?
If you have at least 3 satellites locked in your position should automatically show?
I have sent your query to (Ted- Topcat) no doubt he will sort it for you.
Cheers
Peter

Thanks Peter
Yes, the position (arrow) appears immediately, but it does not show my correct position. It should show you the current position of the GPS but mine shows me at a position about 50km away.

Re: Gps and Oziexplorer Moving Map
Hi Kudu,
When you first start the moving map in OziExplorer with your GPS connected, you should see at the bottom left
of the screen 2 little round dot indicators which will blink on & off. If this is happening then the data transfer is OK.
When this happens OziExplorer looks for a map to display where your position is & the map is seen on the screen.
I assume you have all your relevant maps files in the OziExplorer 'Map' directory & that you have locked the
'Map Find/Searching to Current Map Path' option on the main OziExplorer Toolbar.(The one with the 4 arrows).
One possible reason is the data transfer from your GPS to OziExplorer is not at the compatible baud rate,
causing the slowing down of the transfer to the map.
In OziExplorer configeration under 'COM' option check the 'Upload/Download Baud Rate' & 'NMEA Baud Rate'
with that of your GPS, they should be the same - preferably 9600.
If they are not the same then this could possibly cause the problem.
Also under the 'Moving Map' option check that the'Always Check For A More Detailed Map' box is ticked &
I have my 'Check Interval' set to 120secs.
Sometimes if the map is not regularly updated it tends to freeze in one position so your cursor stops moving.
One other possibility is your map calibration is incorrect so I would check this also by using the 'Check Calibration
of Map' option in the 'File' section.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
Ted

Datum
Kudu
I hope Ted sorted you out.
If your arrow is on your map then moving map is working.
to me I would say your Datum on your GPS WGS84 is not the same as you have in Ozi/configuration/GPS
GPS upload/Download Datum
WGS 84
GPS NMEA Output Datum
WGS 84
Just check

Gps and Oziexplorer Moving Map
Thanks Guys
All my datums is WGS 84 (on Ozi and GPS).
It seems that something must be wrong with Moving Map because if I download my waypoints from the gps, it appears in the correct positions. However, when I switch on Moving Map, the arrow is not in the current GPS position on the map.
There can't be something wrong with the maps as the waypoints are correct. My friend's pc,gps and moving map works perfectly and he got the maps from me.
This is making me old!

test
Kudu
can you post a snap shot showing how far off the track it is for us
Now for a test change all your GPS Datum setting to Aus66 then see if you arrow is till tracking in the same position or has it moved.
To me I still feel you have a difference with the Datum between the two units
