Eureka Gold or X-terra 705
Hi everyone,
In the mean time we have sorted out, (because of our budget) that we want to take one of those two (see title) detectors with us on our trip around Australia. Can anyone give us some info who has experiences with one of them or both? I have seen a few stories on the Forum but they were from about 2011 and maybe the detectors have changed in the mean time. Of course the main thing is finding gold and I know a PI machine is better but they are more expensive.

Re: Eureka Gold or X-terra 705
If i had to chose out of those two, id go the Eureka, it can with its lower freq, be used as a coin machine, but was mostly built for a gold prospecting detector.
The other is more of a coin relic machine, and is not very good on the gold fields.
Iv used both, and have just recently purchased the Whites GMT for goldfield only use in trashy areas to compliment my 4500. Very happy with its ability scoring its first bit on its first outing just last night.

Thanks for you advise mate. Is a Whites even better? In what price range is that?

Garrett Infinium LS is a PI machine about the same price as the Eureka Gold

Re: Eureka Gold or X-terra 705
The going price for a new GMT is AU$995.... not sure what the price of the Eureka is.??
I got mine from Goldsearch in Dunolly Victoria.
To say its better would be untrue....each would have its strong points.
Best thing is to google both models and do a little read up on both and their performance. Thats what i did but at the same time i had a sneak preview of one in operation.
The USA prospecting forums are the best place for information about each model....VLF detecting over their is very active compared to over here. Out of the main contenders for serious VLF gold hunting would be the Gold Bug 2....GMT and the Tesoro Gold Lobo SuperTRAQ. These three have a good name and have been around for awhile, not saying the others are not capable detectors, just highlighting what researching has pointed out to me.
PS..I didn't need a VLF metal detector.....i wanted one.

Re: Eureka Gold or X-terra 705
Hi rc62burke
I bought one new many years ago, tried it out in the field, there was no way it would pick up any deep targets.
I had it checked at Minelab regularly.
The hot ground is no good for it.
There is real good instructional Videos on Youtube.
Those are very detailed from the USA.
So I had it working properly.
I have a GPX4500 now and wished I hadn’t wasted my money on the Eureka Gold.
It has a spot in the shed gathering dust.
Regards Neale

Thanks Neale
Now that clears that up, that info would have been very good in your first post.

Yes rc62burke
I think when I wrote that short post.
I was looking out the window at poring down rain here in Bundaberg AGAIN.
I am very worried about a lot of my friends who can’t find a place to rent in Bundaberg.
I was worried that I can’t get to my property near Calliope because the dirt road has a huge sections of the road are totally missing.
This has affected my normally poor health from Battle Fatigue I got in the 20 years in the Army after Active service.
I am very tired over all this
Regards Neale

changed our mind
Thanks everyone for your ideas.
We dropped the Eureka and X-terra 705 and so now have a new/same problem which one to choose now?
After some investigation we come to; Garret Infinium or AT pro - White's GMT - Fischer Gold Bug II - Teknetic T2.
Please tell your findings/experiences.

Re: Eureka Gold or X-terra 705
Hi
The “Garret, At Gold” is a very exciting choice for the next gold chassing season, and many years to come.
It will be great to read your stories of your finds.
I am looking at the add in “Gold gem and treasure” page 5.
It said the 875 oz “Hand of faith” nugget was found with this brand off detector, a million dollar nugget!
What a great looking unit.
