E-trac on the gold
G day All
I just ordered a new E-trac today and thought i would give it a whirl next time i go away prospecting. I've got some junky areas on quietish ground in mind and was wondering if any one has any tips for me, or patterns to try.

Re: E-trac on the gold
Don't forget to use it under low power lines and above buried telephone cables. PI machines often can't detect too close to these area's.

Re: E-trac on the gold
Good thinking Dicko i will be sure to keep an eye out for spots like that.
I have one spot in mind were their is an old mine and it's a seriously hard spot to get into. The last time i was there i was swinging the old SD2000 and their was rubbish targets with every sweep, i've always wanted to go back with a good VLF as it's a large area and there should be plenty of pre decimals at the least and hopefully some nuggets.

Re: E-trac on the gold
Hi Brett,
I have had my new etrac for about a month, and love it! I am still figuring out the best settings to use in various areas. We have a few areas we would like to try in very trashy ground, where we have found good nuggets. I took it out a few days ago down to the Mainland and whilst I didn't come home with any gold, I think the main reason was that I didn't have it set correctly. If anyone with experience with the etrac has any tips or settings to suggest I would really appreciate the advice.
As far as coin hunting goes it is brilliant. And the fact that you can run it directly under power lines absolutley amazes me. It is a great machine.
And best of all when we travel now out of the gold fields we still can get our fix beeping.

Re: E-trac on the gold
Minelab owners forum link for you http://minelabowners.com/forum/index.php A friend of mine did very well on gold nuggets and specimens with an Explorer years ago on the Palmer river diggings in the trashy areas so they do have their place.
Hope this helps,
JP

Re: E-trac on the gold
Thanks JP that's the site spider was talking about. I had come across it before and probably stuffed a page of it in bookmarks somewhere under gold with about a hundred other links, file management isn't one of my strong points.
I took it for a run yesterday to familarise myself with it and was pretty impressed just with the default settings. With so many user options it shouldn't be too hard to squeeze some performance out of it on mineralised ground (famous last words) but even if i can't i found an old racetrack not too far from home a few weeks ago, it should shine there.
