Hmpffff
Well its official...... I am the best lead finder about hahaha.... 4hrs today and 7g of lead!!!
Never mind..... Although its starting to wear me down I must admit.....
On a positive note..... I played around with a 0.7g gold sample to tune the machine in..... No, not one I found It was given to me by a friend called Norm Enders in Kyneton. Some of you may know him.
What I found was the big difference in signal strength when I put the gain up to around 17. I had to have the stabiliser down to 8 though.
I also found that I could detect the test target at a greater distance when buried than an air test. I thought that was interesting. So the day wasn't a total loss.....

Hill Folk
I'VE been holding off to give you all that room up there for you to find your first bit but it's just not happening so you leave me no choice but To me up with you some time after Christmass and put you on one of my X marks the spot and hope you get lucky
I will give you good notice to get the day you can make it so hang in there.
Cheers
David

thanks
David,
I would be happy to leave the detector at home and just walk with someone like yourself that's experienced and talk about the geology and little tips and tricks of the detectors.... Want to work out the puzzle of it all but I feel there is a piece missing.... The few bits I have found in other places was pure arse I reckon.....
I am certainly not looking for "secret spots" from anyone but want to learn how to figure them out for myself as I am sure there is some still there and now I cant give up on that place......

for sure
Jerry,
You can camp anywhere in the area as long as you stay in the public land boundary which is marked clearly on most maps. You cannot remove firwood without a permit but you can make a camp fire and use the available wood on site. Bear in mind the fire restrictions and remember the fire must be for cooking or warmth and no bigger than a certain size which is on the CFA website on the "can I, can't I" brochure'..........

Thankies!
I see Xmas night being out there and maybe the night after.... i don't do camp sites preferring to full bush camp like the old airforce days

Re: Dollys Creek worth detecting
Hey guys, Camped up there Xmas Eve,
I assure u there is no decent gold to be found, no water either & for a detector the ground is dam near solid iron with chucks on the surface all over.
The tracks are pretty rough as winter has been harsh on them... few spots my zook struggled to get us through (raised with 29s).
I took my bow but there is no real life up there, no real rabbit diggings, no fox.... Only thing just pre-dawn was a Sambar deer scaring the crap outta me lol
Was too dark to go chasing him around all the open mine shafts.
I did however get my drone up so whipped up a quick vid for you all

Re: Dollys Creek worth detecting
Hi there team. I am new to prospecting and wanted you to know this Information has been invaluable to helping me along the way. I am based an hour from Dolly’s Creek and wanted to head up there at some stage. I see this chain finished some months ago and wanted to know if any of you still venture up there? I am swinging a GPX5000 and have been practising in the Otways where l live. Any spots down here you know of also would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Dollys Creek worth detecting
Hey Team,
Went for my first swing on Saturday at Dolly's and like Dave found a tonne of lead but was good to get out with the weather being a little cooler. Thanks to the amazing information in this thread we headed left on the maps, the right seems super steep and maybe best hitting it from the back side of the hill.
Am desperate for a lesson on my 5000 to understand the signals a bit more and hopefully find my first bit of gold. If anyone is heading up with a wealth of knowledge, would love to tag along
Hope you find something today Dave!
