Flip the bits of angle and expanded mesh around the other way, the way they are facing now they are just a trap for everything, facing the other way they create a negative pressure behind them and that is how the gold falls out of the flow.
eg if flow is going -> then your pics show the ___>__>__>__>__ but the riffles should be -> ___<__<__<__<__

Henry Henry
This sluice is very reminiscent of what is often called a Henry-Henry here in the US. ('twas not I that named it so the origin of the name is a mystery to me, too).
Generally they are made from a black vinyl agricultural drainage tubing with square drops similar to the one shown here. The corrugated tubing is cut to produce a top and bottom (OK, it could be right and left I guess– eh!). One half is then mounted to a single board, making a 2 or 3 meter long round bottomed concentrate concentrator. The classified concentrates are run through the chute by additional water pumped to the head of the sluice. The angle of the sluice is usually quite steep – close to 20 – 30 degrees.
The Henry Henry (sometimes called a ‘Poop Chute or Poop Tube’) is not terribly efficient – but it works well enough (and is so inexpensive to make) that it is popular with folks just starting out to build equipment.
