Not much more than a kids toy, I'm afraid. Beware.

I use the handhelds, haven't missed a beat, good range etc. and no warranty issues, have had the units for about three years now. Not sure about the mobile units, sorry unable to help with that one.

Just a follow up.....
I bought the mobile job and mounted in in my 4x4...its very small and fits almost anywhere. Simply to use with lots of programing features.
Iv had it now for just on a year with no issues, and would recommend it. Mine came with a 6db antenna kit from Repco when it was on special. $169 or there a bouts from memory.? Under 200 anyway.

Still using the unit above, no issues at all....certainly not a toy anyway.....would recommend.

As for the Unidens in my possession...never again will i buy this sh!t......and i was a big user of their products 'for many years.

I have had in the last few years...2x tradie packs that in both packs one of the h/held units has failed.
Admittedly, they have been dropped on many occasions...so what?....they boast ruggedness.....and issues with their charging system plagues both packs from day one.......in a word....useless.!!

Hey Narrawa, yes you get what you pay for. You've been very lucky with the Oricom that's for sure. They're big in phone systems like Uniden.

If you get a good one, they last ages and perform well. That's the whole issue with them unfortunately. A very high percentage come back for warranty claims but if you get a good one like you did, they just keep going.
I would have ranked Uniden as 1 above the Oricom though, but so glad you've been lucky.
The GME would be 2nd on the scale with Icom being top of the list. Top of the list in price though too pale

I had a Phillips FM650SD since the day they were released....even after drowning my truck up to the dash, that UHF radio (while under water) after being submerged for over an hr, still worked....and i used it for another 12months before it developed dry joints ect....still have it packed away for the day i get around to repairing it. That was back in the days when you could buy something that lasted/took a beating/abused ect.

Im happy to trial Oricom next time round if they use AA batteries in their h/held units...if no AAs for obvious reasons... that being availability most anywhere....i'll be looking for something else...and not GME...been there done that as well.

Yep, you get what you pay for now days...the trick is....pay for it only once...if you can. Shocked Uniden are not on the list in my books no more. Their warranty department is prehistoric....last one i sent in took a techy 4 weeks to work out it didn't tx any more. In that time life goes on and you still age according to the laws of nature...and your warranty continues along at the same rate while your unit is in limbo.
