Recirculating highbanker
Hey Guys
I'm looking for some recommendations on a recirculating highbanker. I am not really interested in building one myself, I would rather just buy one that just works without having to muck around with it too much.
I want to process some material in an area where there is currently no water. I can get water in there in drums in the back of my ute though, so that's why I need it to be recirculating.
This is something like what I want and also roughly the size I want: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQaYI_QSBVI
That guy built his himself but like I mentioned I would prefer to buy an already built and tested unit. I'm in Melbourne. Anyone have any recommendations?
Cheers

Re: Recirculating highbanker
G'day onthehunt Can't help with the unit that you're looking for but we have some water containers here that would probably suit your water recirculation idea better than 44gal drums.
We use them for the fire fighting units. They are large plastic cube shaped containers that hold around 1000ltrs. We buy them from Disposals places ... they usually have held non-chemical fluids. They come in an aluminium cage and are usually sold on a pallet. They fit perfectly into or onto a ute ... so you would have plenty of water for a weekend away.
Usual costs range from $50 - $75 per unit.
For us it's easy to load/unload because we just use the tractor with the forks ... but you would need an A-frame chain winch or something similar, given its empty weight.

Re: Recirculating highbanker
In the video he is using a keene highbanker and has just set it up so it can recirulate. Nuggets from down under used to stock the the keen highbankers so if that what you were after give them a call.

Re: Recirculating highbanker
Thanks Kate
I've already got a bunch of drums, I think they are 60 liters each or something (maybe a bit more) but they are just the right size to be able to lift out of the ute easy enough when full. I've got about 10 of them already.

Re: Recirculating highbanker
Thanks Shivan, I found what you mean I think. Are they also called power sluices?
The Nuggets from Down Under website was working 5 mins ago but now its non-responsive. But he had one there for about $2500 I think it was.
I just looked them up on the Keene site, and this looks like exactly what I want: http://www.keeneeng.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=175H&Category_Code=PDS

Re: Recirculating highbanker
Highbanker, power sluice, 2 tiered sluice for some banjo. Many names for them. I think nuggets did have similar keene units just not sure of stock. Iam also unsure if they come with pump and hose like the one you showed. Also you must remember these units were not made for recirculating so you may need to play with a few things to avaoid water loss.

Re: Recirculating highbanker
Thanks Aussie Detecting
Are you saying you would recommend to combine both of those products? Im a bit confused, the highbanker looks like what I want, but it doesn't come with the pump like the power sluice does.
Or would I just supply my own pump and hoses if I bought the highbanker? Was after something that included everything.
Cheers

Re: Recirculating highbanker
Hey Brad
Was wondering if you could give me a hand with the setup of my new pump. Just trying to work out what connectors im going to need to connect the hoses. I went to bunnings yesterday but they didn't have what I need, so I am going to buy the bits online.
First of all, the inlet hose (the short clear hose) is 1.5 inch, and the inlet connection on the pump is also 1.5 inch (BSP male thread), so to connect that inlet hose to the pump I think i'm going to need one of these hose tails, a 1.5 inch BSP to 1.5 inch hose tail: http://www.hoseonline.com.au/Fittings-Clamps/Female-Nut-Tails/Poly-Nut-Tail-1-12in.html
Then next, the outlet hose is 1.5 inch layflat hose and I can use the same size hose tail as above to connect that to the outlet on the pump, so I'll grab two of them.
But the next part is where I am confused. At the other end of the 1.5 inch layflat hose, where I connect it to the highbanker, the connection on the highbanker is smaller, it is 1 inch BSP male.
So for that I think what I need is a 1 inch BSP female to 1.5 inch hose tail (ie to step it up from 1 inch at the highbanker to 1.5 inch at the hose), but the problem is I can't find one of them anywhere. I've only been to bunnings and masters so far, and looked online at various hose fittings sites, but haven't been able to find one that will do the job.
Am I on the right track with what I need for that connector? I might have to try and find a pump specialist shop somewhere to see if they have them.
And also one final question. With the inlet hose, should I be connecting a filter to that in the river/creek end? Does it need a foot valve as well for priming?
Thanks mate. Sorry for all the questions, i'm new to water pumps

Re: Recirculating highbanker
Actually I think I just found what I need.
1 of these: http://www.irrigationwarehouse.com.au/prod1087.htm (Socket 1" or 25mm BSP Thread - Hansen - Nyglass (Glass Reinforced Nylon)
1 of these: http://www.irrigationwarehouse.com.au/prod1347.htm (Reducing Nipple 1 1/2" x 1" Nyglass (Glass Reinforced Nylon) BSP Threads)
3 of these: http://www.irrigationwarehouse.com.au/prod1460.htm (1 1/2" Nut x 40mm Hose Tail Nyglass (Glass Reinforced Nylon) BSP Threads)
With the connection from the 1.5" layflat host to the 1" highbanker, I will connect a 1" female to female socket to the highbanker, then I will connect a male reducing nipple to that, which will step it up to 1.5" male, then I will connect a 1.5inch female hose tail to that, which the layflat hose will connect too.
Bit of a round-a-bout way of doing it, but I don't think anyone makes the connector in the size I need.

Re: Recirculating highbanker
Yeah I think so mate, I ordered the bits above, plus I also went back and ordered a foot valve in case I need it for priming the pump. Not sure if I needed one, but it came with a mesh strainer (filter thing) which I figured would be good to have anyway. Should get the bits later this week.
Got the pump going yesterday, it's got some balls.
