ALDI Special this week on what appears to be an excellent 4x4 12v Air Compressor
Hi All,
Quick note to let you know Aldi have what appears to be a very solid/excellent 4x4 air compressor coming up for sale soon. It looks similar in appearance (but not exactly the same) to the one I purchased from SCA few months back and mine inflates tyres and air-jacks very, very fast.
I paid mine $164 which was reduced from $249 at the time, it can now be bought from SCA for $149, however Aldi have theirs listed for $99.
Here are the details:
SCA Click here if signed in for Super Cheap Auto
ALDI click here if signed in for ALDI
Note: the version I have (SCA) as well as the ALDI model has the air hose attachment at the very end of the sturdy carry handle. The finish is enamel as opposed to many other cyclindrical looking models which look like they have machine oil all over them, probably to stop rust as well.
Cheers, Tony.

Re: ALDI Special this week on what appears to be an excellent 4x4 12v Air Compressor
Hi again,
I forgot to also mention that the same week/special includes a 12v 600W inverter for less than $60. I have a 300W at the moment and may end up buying ALDI's as it has 2 outlet sockets plus a USB for charging etc. If anyone has purchased one previously from ALDI, do they work reasonably well and are you happy with it? Thanks.
Tony.

Thanks for the post 4rd. The Aldi one though has a 50l/m capacity whereas your one has 160l/m. I wonder if this may be a problem?
Many thanks though

Re: ALDI Special this week on what appears to be an excellent 4x4 12v Air Compressor
Hi CostasDee,
VERY GOOD pickup and apologies to all as this should have been an obvious one on my part (50L/min compared to 160l/min, big difference). The intent was to flag what seemed to be a similar item at a muich lower price but not in this case....
What I can say for sure however is that the SCA model which I do have, is an excellent unit and they have been further reduced recently so if anyone is in the market for a heavy duty/fast compressor for 4x4 or caravaning (tyres, air-lift bag/jack works a treat and I have tested, better than using the exhaust, etc) the SCA version above will not dissappoint.
Regards,
Tony.

Re: ALDI Special this week on what appears to be an excellent 4x4 12v Air Compressor
Just got my Aldi catalogue, states 150 l/p.
Last year this compressor was sold as well and generated a fair bit of discussion on 4X4 sites, apparently it is a fairly good unit.

Re: ALDI Special this week on what appears to be an excellent 4x4 12v Air Compressor
Cams 4500, I think it's a bit confussing. I think they mean it will pump to 150psi but it is at a rate of 50l/m. Click the Aldi link above and check it out. I think the person entering the information has done an error somewhere. If it is 150l/m, I'd be very interested. Maybe someone can check out an actual product box when it comes out and post their findings.

On the Aldi site it states 150 except for in the desription where it is 50. They may have just done a typo and dropped the "1" Everywhere else it states 150. I'll see if I can find details on last years one.

Re: ALDI Special this week on what appears to be an excellent 4x4 12v Air Compressor
Found some info from last years one, they are a good bit of kit and quite large. Last year they were 150 LPM I see no reason why they would not be this year.
One guy did a comparison to another compressor
Max Air - 15 to 38psi = 3'42"
Aldi - 15 to 38psi = 1'38"
They sold out pretty quick last year.

Re: ALDI Special this week on what appears to be an excellent 4x4 12v Air Compressor
Ok I'm interested. I'll see if I can get down there Wed and get one (if the box says 150L/m). The other thing is though, the duty cycle. The SCA one is 45 mins at 40psi. I got a mate to who money isn't an object and he got one for about $450 that has 100% duty cycle (or so he says) at 6cfm (about 160L/m). I suppose, so long as you can pump up the tires from flat without waiting for it to cool down, that's enough of a duty cycle for me.

Re: ALDI Special this week on what appears to be an excellent 4x4 12v Air Compressor
A couple of years ago I bought a 12v 4x4 compressor from SCA and was initially impressed with its capacity to quickly inflate 4x4 tyres but did notice it got extremely hot very quickly, however over time the internal components have worn out (not from an excessive amount of use) it now struggles to inflate a tyre beyond 28lb. And I am certain it will soon let me down and a new compressor is now required.
Just be wary that if travelling to a remote area you need to have confidence that your equipment won't let you down when needed most.

Aldi machine is 20 mins at 40 psi, so a little bit down on the SCA unit. Though for most 20 mins would be plenty of time to do what is needed. I'm thinking of waiting a week to see if I can pick one up cheaper than 100. I was suprised by it's weight and size.

Re: ALDI Special this week on what appears to be an excellent 4x4 12v Air Compressor
Thanks Camms4500 on the specs of the duty cycle. Ok course I would prefer more, but it's enough to get me out of a sticky situation if it arose. Missed the boat and I'm a week late as I have been quite busy. Does anyone know if they still have them? Can't seem to get the individual stores phone number and I don't feel like driving all over Melbourne.
Cheers

I saw a couple at Endeavour Hills Aldi yesterday. I don't think you can ring stores directly.

Thanks Diggerdude for that link. I hadn't crossed my mind to look on fleabay. That one almost sounds too good to be true, woth all those extras and twin cylinders and at a slightly cheaper price. Have you used it? Does it sound and feel "tough"? I think since I'm probably too late for the Aldi one, I'll switch and get this one (maybe it's a sign from above?).

Re: ALDI Special this week on what appears to be an excellent 4x4 12v Air Compressor
CostasDee, specs are key however when I physically picked them up and looked at them I found a difference in quality (albeit similar specs), the filter on the straight cyclinder looking models had a cap which to me at the time appeared a bit flimsy plus the model with the air-hose connection at the end of the handle (SCA & Aldi) was all enamelled. I suggest you take a trip to SCA and take a look at both form factors and then decide.
