Waanyarra area in Vic

I need some gold prospecting info for the Waanyarra area in Vic.

I suggest you buy Doug Stones Map of the area for a start. It has information on it as well. You can buy all the maps on Ebay or any detector shop

You should try secret hill at waanyarra i would tell you how to get there but its a secret, also if you go down waanyarra cematery road youll see a million people camped there all the time,people have buses and everything,i was in a creek bed and a dude on a bike surprised me i think he was from batemans bay nsw he had came down in a decked out bus for 10 days or so,he told me about 8 years ago he found a 10 oz nug about 2 feet down on the hill i just came down from,i told him i found a 1 grammer the day before,i didnt get back there before he left but i saw the area he racked and the holes he dug i was wondering if he found anything else,anyone no who im talking about he uses ether a gp extreme or gp 3000,im keen to know how he went.

There is a good camping area at Waanyarra with pit toilets, water and BBQs. You can pretty well throw your pick over your shoulder and start detecting were it lands. this was a very rich area in its hayday and has always given me back petrol money at least. Secret hill is not really a secret but it adds a bit of mystery the area.

I was wondering if using a 2WD has any problems in the area, this time of year?

Hi Jt,

yes you can go on some of the main tracks in a 2wd at Waanyarra.

Just park at the camping ground and detecting spots are in walking distance any way.
