sdc and info
Minelab first came out with the sdc in 2016. 2016 was the first of a few years that it was originally a trail model to begin with. They wanted to tap into the shallow small target mid range market. The first lot of sdc were considered as a trail. 2019 was the turning point. After 3 years of further development and feed back from users. 2020 was the year the new sdc models came out since 2nd week in june 2020.
They are the next best thing and similar to when the gpx5000 first came out in 2012. So its revolutionary I guess.
The new sdc will be a permanent model for the next 10 years at least.
Talk the gpx4500 new model version are now dis continued and the gpx5000 maybe fazed out in 2-3 years time.
There will be an additional model to replace the gpx5000 then.
Currently to top 3 models are:
sdc2300
gpx5000
gpz7000
sdc so far have been the top seller and are tracking very well in terms of sales.
I was about to trade in my gpx4500 (2008 model) in 2018 but was told to wait for 2 years as a newer version was coming out by then also in 2018 they ran out of the sdcs too they did not make many of the first lot.
Now I have the new sdc2300 had it for a week used once for 3 hours.
Will have it for at least the next 6 years.
Lads at coiltek said 10 years if I look after it.
Covid thing has slowed up development too.
But during the 2020's minilab are going to go into further research and development too.
Its a case of watch this space too.
SDC2300 are number 1 but also internationally too. There are other countries where gold is too.
A very under rated one I feel are the gp3500 detectors too they were just before the gpx range.
This is for gold detectors so I have not mentioned the other types.
Its interesting the types of detectors past and present

Re: sdc and info
I reckon the 2300 was launched in about 2014.
I think I've had mine about 6 years. Otherwise it sounds pretty good. I just bought a new one a couple of weeks ago and I reckon it is better than my old one. So I'd have to agree on that point.

2014 Sdc wasn’t mass produced as it was in 2016 it was a trail model in 2014 too. 2020 is considered as the boom of the Sdc.

You are mistaken Tim,
Minelab do not release " trial " versions to the market.
I and many others were using mass produced SDC2300's back in 2014. Here is a video of me using it in August 2014.

Re: sdc and info
Tim, I don’t know where your info on the SDC comes from, but it doesn’t quite fit the facts (as I understand them).
Minelab announced the release of the SDC in 2014 and as AratatGold said “they don’t release trial versions to the market”.
The popularity of the SDC boomed long before 2020. Quite frankly, if you haven’t been using one, then you’ve missed the cream!
As far as I can make out, the changes to the “new” SDC are largely cosmetic. I have not read of any changes to the internals. Had Minelab been listening to feedback, I’d have thought that a foot stand would be one of the first things to add.

Re: sdc and info
I've got a feeling that I heard somewhere, that the first 2300, as we know it now, was first designed for military use. This is why it was designed to fold up and could be carried in a backpack. It was also a khaki colour and very sensitive to pick up the smallest metal parts in anti personnel mines. I also think Minelab was selling it for about $7,000 each. Then Garrett came on the seen and took over at a cheaper price. And this is why Minelab changed the colour and lowered the price for domestic use. But this could be a fallacy and only a rumor. So I'm not sure if this is really true. Someone here may be able to verify. JP call you fill us in if this is true or not??

As above the SDC2300 uses the same design as the military F3 compact detector.Wombat wrote:I've got a feeling that I heard somewhere, that the first 2300, as we know it now, was first designed for military use. There are several differences though & the main one is the pulse induction technology used in each.
SDC2300 = Pulse Induction, Multi Period Fast (MPF) Release date 2014
F3 compact = Pulse Induction: Bi-polar Multi Period Sensing (MPS). Release date 2011

Designed to find fine wiring in ceramic land mines. Hacked by Chinese. Poor sales for military. Recoloured for prospecting.

Reg you are only partially correct, recoloured yes the SDC uses the same housing as the F3 Compact, but that’s where the similarity ends. The electronics are totally different, I know because I did field testing on both during development. If you actually tried an F3 compact you’d know what I’m talking about.
