Hi Phillip ... not that I'm any expert, but you're not the only one with a 5000 that I have heard say exactly the same thing. In another post (? somewhere here) one of the guys said to line your pin pointer hoster with alfoil ... and that fixes the problem.

I've got a 4000 and have no problems what so ever. Hope the above info helps. Very Happy

NEW GPX 5000 Packages - Minelab Detector Demo Days - Specials! Empty Info

A Faraday cage or Faraday shield is an enclosure formed by conducting material or by a mesh of such material. Such an enclosure blocks external static and non-static electric fields. Faraday cages are named after the English scientist Michael Faraday, who invented them in 1836.[1]

A Faraday cage's operation depends on the fact that an external static electrical field will cause the electric charges within the cage's conducting material to redistribute themselves so as to cancel the field's effects in the cage's interior. This phenomenon is used, for example, to protect electronic equipment from lightning strikes and electrostatic discharges.

Hi Phil,
Below is some information from Tech support which will hopefully help with the issue you are having:

With the PRO-FIND 25 switched OFF there is no electronic interference with your main detector, but the detector will sense it (just like any other big target) if the PRO-FIND 25 is brought close enough to the coil. This distance will vary depending on your detector, settings, coil size etc.
With the PRO-FIND 25 switched ON, your main detector will detect it much easier. So to avoid interference, so will need to keep the PRO-FIND 25 a lot further from the coil on your main detector. When you intend to try the PRO-FIND 25 in a partially dug hole, to minimize interference simply place your main detector to one side, with the search coil flat on the ground and as far from the hole as practical. With an 11” Mono on a GPX5000, the distance needed to avoid interference is approx. 1.5 metres.

Please let us know if there is anything else at all we can help you with

Good Luck and Happy Prospecting
