I think the XP Nugget finder(switch) is old stock and the new ones haven't got the XP switch

Normal Coil Vs XP Version Empty Re: Normal Coil Vs XP Version

Could anybody tell me the difference between the normal coil and XP version and which one is better.

For the GP series try to get an XP version. For the GPX series get a normal coil non-XP version. The GPX machines have a built in phase switch that do not need an XP version.

"With the DD coils the option is for the standard DD's or for the XP version with switch. The Minelab GPX4000 and GPX4500 has built in phase switching in the control box and an XP coil is not necessary."

If you get an XP version for your 3500 run it in Normal Mode, and not XP Mode, for finding the smallest of nuggets possible, as Normal Mode will find smaller nuggets. The XP Mode is used for larger deeper nuggets as it changes the response sound.

If you get a non-XP version for your 3500 it will also work just fine also.

Just to clarify the above statements, the response control in the GPX series does not "change the phase" or is a "phase change" of the GPX detectors just a software change in the way a target sounds. There are two advantages of the phase change DD coils, one is the response change (where a high/low response inverts to a low/high) but the other is the phase change where you can achieve similar characteristics to the Cancel mode but with options.

Cancel mode is a hardware change for DD coils only where the phase is changed to help ignore interference, due to the phase change the coil can also work well on a salt lake in this mode (similar to AI (figure 8 ) coils). To achieve the phase change of a phase changed DD coil, select Mono mode with the coil in the XP mode or a dedicated phase changed only DD coil then target areas of high interference or salty conductive ground. I feel a phased changed DD provides slightly better performance over Cancel mode with a nice crisp response and decent depth and sensitivity. If using Cancel mode you will need to select the inverted response position in the GPX series as the targets will go low/high for small and high/low for large, hence making the XP or phase changed DD's popular with the GP series as the response remains the same when Mono mode is selected.

As an aside once again with the GPX series try running in Enhance if the mineralisation is bad as Mono mode with a DD coil is a lot more sensitive than DD mode hence more mineralisation sounds.

Hope this helps,

JP
