mystery find with nuggets
Uploaded with [URL=

hi all, went out on tuesday with lkyphil and camped out over night.... once again we started the rivalry on who would get the most nuggets.... and yep, lkyphil won the day beating me by three..... thanks phil for the laughs and the freezing time out there, it sure was cold out there ... the four bits came to a whoping 0.52, but its nice to get the four... the button and key gave a large bang to my ears, but as for the other thing........ well what is it... i have no idea except that its made of copper and probably hung something of a jacket , maybe... so if there is any detectives out there that know of its origin please give it a name.... its got me baffled.... cheers

Geez Gary, now I know why they call you flyspecks , still they all add up, well done on your finds
Don't know what the mystery item is but it looks like a pull ring maybe from an old can of coke circa 1890

Re: mystery find with nuggets
I think it is a clip that went into the boards around the upper part of the room to hang pictures.

Re: mystery find with nuggets
hey mike 54, had to laugh, but no, its not a bottle opener....as for you bigfella, we could sit around your camp fire and solve the worlds problems while drinking that terrible stuff you have, but i dont think you would work this one out .....rwork, i must addmit thats not a bad call at all... the only thing is, how would it fix to the wall or board , the back is far to big for a nail or screw.... i'm still leaning towards it was sewen into some sort of fabric and then hung somthing off of it, maybe evan a saddle or something..... it will be solved one day.... anyhow this is the key after a day in the brickys acid.... its old and i dont want to wreck it any further by leaving it in too long cheers

Re: mystery find with nuggets
The picture board that ran around the rooms around two thirds up, have a gap between the back of the rail and the wall. The cip was pushed into the gap and the pictures were tied by piano wire to the clip.

Rwork you are spot on as soon as i read that i could recall those things when i was a kid, behind those boards was room for the small section to slot into and as you said use piano wire tied to the loop part,Hey flyspecks i bought half a dozen bottles of red trying to work out why you blokes drink it,can't work it out but goes to show i drink anything.

Re: mystery find with nuggets
Maybe an old suspender belt hook? The loop might have had stretchy material through it and the hook gets pulled down to slip into a loop on the waist of work pants. Easier to imagine if the picture is upside down.

Re: mystery find with nuggets
hey fellas. just got back from another trip, and had much discusion about that object, we all agreed that its some sort of clip, weather sewen into material or leather.... and yea, everybody seems to think they have seen something like it before....rwork, i still like your idea, but carn't get my head around how it fixs to the wall , it would have to be upside down... .. bigfella, yes wel will have to catchup for a drink, and a swing, but give me some warm weather first, besides there's a few jobs around the house i have to do first......goldsniff , your idea was the pick of the ladies on the weekend , they seem to think the same.... i know i will find it one day while looking in a museum or some junky shop some where..... cheers
