Hi,
My name is Bob and as my avatar piccy would suggest I am a new Garrett user.
Have not got it just yet, should be a week or so until I pick it up with the Propointer.
I live at Werribee which means the triangle is just up the road
I am retired and have been for 10 years now, I had a pretty serious stroke and nothing on the right hand side works any more. It could be worse though
My wife and I will probably be fairly frequent visitors to Maryborough in the coming months, just cause we can!
There is probably a heap of questions I could ask but I will leave that for later and continue watching the video's for now...

Re: First Posting
G'day crocky111 ... I'm Kate ... nice ta meet ya!!
Yep! Had a couple of them when I was in my 30's & 40's ... now almost 60 and I've never felt better! ... Just got round, over, under, & through any problems that have cropped up from time to time ... and now it's time to "do my own thing"
You've certainly got it over me! ... I'm here in poor old Sth Aust! Land of successively backward governments, mega trendy wendys, and the greatest collection of 'gotta be seen, gotta be heard', social climbing Greenies!!
Hope you find all the fun, camaraderie and enjoyment out of detecting that I have found!

Re: First Posting
Hi Kate,
I have been and seen quite a lot too, as you said it is my time too...
I have always wanted to play around with a detector and being reasonably close to the triangle we can get up there for a few days at time and just play around with it.
I think my wife is looking forward to the trips as well, something different
I don't expect to get much but it will be fun.
How bad were your stroke's?
The other option with the one I had does not bare mentioning!

Re: First Posting
I can tell you that they were pretty scare-y! Especially in the age-group that I was in .... my kids were all still young and at school.
When I was compace enough to figure out where I was and what had happened, I was totally blind ... Wow! Now that was scarey!!
It took 3 months before I got my sight back ... and I have always since had a couple of weird spots in my visual field that just do not register.
The worse part was ... although I recognised my kids faces, I could not for the life of me remember their names!
I had to learn to read and write again.
It was just totally WEIRD!!! And people thought I was somehow 'catching' .... so they sort of avoided me, I think.
If there is one, really really important life-lesson that I learned ... go live it, live it to the full, do all the things that you enjoy and all the things that you've ever wanted to do ... and enjoy all the small blessings in life ... you never know when you might pass over to the other side of whatever/where-ever! Gold doesn't just come in nugget version

Re: First Posting
Gee that would be pretty scary... There are probably people reading this and wondering what funny stuff we are talking about, you have to have done it
I had mine just after my 50th birthday and the kids were all grown up.
I can't write, I can a little bit but it is only with the LHS and not real good. I use a computer so I don't need to write anyway. I used to run my own computer company so I have managed to keep the skills in that area. I get that sort of thing as well, there are a few who have avoided me now that I am disabled, I am not worried about them. I have a splint on my RH leg which allows me to walk for short distances and the car is modified with the accelerator pedal on the wrong side of the brake pedal
I like the end of your last post, how very true.

Re: First Posting
Hey Bob ... kindred spirits
It's pretty hard for the 'un-initiated' to look at the results of a stroke and see the person standing in front of them ... not the results of the injury! And that is what a stroke is! It's an injury to the tissue of the organ that we call the brain.
Mine was a 'bleed' stroke ... the most common is a 'blockage' stroke. All I have to be careful of is NOT to take anything that thins the blood, or takes my blood pressure up too high (mine is usually below the average)
What better hobby than to walk quietly through the bush, concentrating on what I am hearing, NOT on all the trappings of modern life, kicking back in my tent in the evenings and watching the heavens and listening to the chorus of the night.
Aaahhhhh ........ now THAT'S heaven!!!

Re: First Posting
That's mine, a blockage of the caroted artery. LHS 95% and the RHS about 90%, I had the LHS stripped and cleaned out and I take aspirin for the RHS to keep the blood thin.
I would have liked to go to Laancoorie(sp) but I had to fly to Brisbane that week to attend my young fellows engagement party. Just hope the next one is later or I will miss it as the wedding is on!

Re: First Posting
Hmmm ... nasty one!!
It's a pity you both missed out on Laancoorie! It was just BRILLIANT!!! I learned so much, BUT they turned my general interest into a full blown fanaticism Keep your eyes on the section here in the forum that is dedicated to the 2013 Laancoorie Bash. It is already in the workings and I am definitely planning on being there. Can't wait!!
Hopefully things will work out and you will both be able to attend both functions.

Welcome Crocky111. Looks like you (and Kate) have certainly had your health challenges. Panning and detecting can keep you fit and being in the bush is relaxing so hopefully they will make your life challenges easier.

Thanks AnnieL,
We have our little health problems but life is still worth living, you never know when that big nugget will be uncovered and hopefully it will be mine. Just joking

Thanks Agent 86...
getascripter, I have put a message about Lannecorre and dates up just to hopefully get the weekend to be not on the dates when we will be up in Qld next year.

Re: First Posting
Yes, I saw that crocky ... good move
I really hope it all works out well ... I'd love to catch up and have a good old fashioned yarn I'm a tent dweller when I'm away, and my camp van has a bl**dy bewdy of a big BBQ on it ... maybe we'll all kick back and have a little tipple along with the snags .... while we admire the magic golden rocks that we've collected

Re: First Posting
The AT Gold and the Propointer turned up tonight
I have put all together (with my one hand that works, and the help of my wife Pat).
A little bit of testing tomorrow and then we should be right to go.
