update.....almost an ounce of the good stuff...before and after the acid bath
Hi all
spent 3 hours in a new area. I was digging an unusual amount
of ground noise. Within half an hour I had 2 small nuggets to my name,
so I decided to keep continuing. Then an inverted signal and wobbly like
hell, so I thought of junk, not until I dug into the gravel and after about
10 inches I hit bedrock and the sound changed from inverted to high pitch
tone and now screaming. As I did not want to damage the target (at this
stage I had a very positive feeling , I went back to the car to pick up my
pinpoint probe. Then a few more blows with the pick into the side of the wall
and out came this beauty (29,6g)....I am over the moon:)
Wish every day was like this!
Will be back there with a rake and more time....

update
had it for 3 days in hydrochloric acid...this is how it looks now...although the
picture is taken from the other side of the nugget..so loss in weight was about 10%

ALMOST AN OUNCE OF THE GOOD STUFF
BEDROCK,
Just goes to show, never give up. Great bit off gold, wonder if it has a bigger brother playing hide and seek.

Well everyone, see it pays to dig every target. As what Bedrock said "he thought it was junk" at first. Now if he walked away, that gold may have never seen the light of day. WELL DONE Bedrock and I hope there are many more to come.

Hi Bedrock ,
So happy for you Bro !!!! Your patience & perserverance has just been rewarded
I read your post , then saw the picture & immediately felt your excitement .
Hope that this is just one of many sizeable nuggets to come your way - congratulations mate
If i may suggest one thing Bedrock - Capitalise on the moment & use your momentum to hunt " BIG " for a while . Small ones are a great fix but " BIG " ones are the ultimate rush !!!
Good luck
Regards

Re: update.....almost an ounce of the good stuff...before and after the acid bath
Hi guys, thanks for sharing my excitment !
As we talk the nugget sits in Hydrochloric acid. Will
post another pic once the ironstone has dissolved.
Detector used was a 5000 with a 11" mono commander coil
and settings in 'fine gold', not that it really mattered with that
nugget as any X-terra 705 (this to all the xterra operators) would
have easily found that one. It was halfway buried under a dead branch
of tree that I had to push back a bit in order to shove the coil under it.
The nuggets are all water worn, but on a hill slope where the old timers
did some surfacings, but not to a very great extent. Now it's all covered
with wood and leaves and very hard to get any coil onto the ground, so a
rake should help and yes Gullyhunter I will use the momentum to go hunt
for bigger stuff with bigger coils, as I believe this inconspicious looking hill
with only one hole on the bottom that looks like a test hole, has not had too
much attention, neither from the old timers nor from detector operators. And
as for my socks, I didn't have them in two different colours
cheers

Re: update.....almost an ounce of the good stuff...before and after the acid bath
Nice going, how many of us would not have bothered to: a) move the branch and b) dig the junk sounding target. Food for thought!

Re: update.....almost an ounce of the good stuff...before and after the acid bath
wow. very nice.
i gotta say (and i hope they mods don't mind), but the left side of the nugget looks like a penis, but the top of it looks like a guy blowing a horn. sorry.... i'm not mentally disturbed, but thats what it looks like to me.

Don't you just hate how the acid bath robs you of some of the weight. Damn fine looking hunk of gold there.
