5000 & 4500 settings for very small coils???
Hi Folks,
I have gleaned a lot of info from this forum for a long time, & are thankfull to all who post. I have just joined today as I currently have a "HEADSCRATCHER" which I cannot make any headway with. Am currently at Dunoly, & have done somthing I always swore I would never do, ... waste time using a very small coil....However...when caught in a weak moment of the flesh, I yielded to the temptation, & purchased a coiltek 6 inch sniffer mono. Problem is I cannot get it to find anything smaller than .3 of a gram either on my 4500 or mother's 5000. Have played with settings etc, but to no avail. The 14x9 mono I have will find that, as will the minelab 11 mono. Open to all suggestions. .....Oh buy the way, If anyone knows of any LEAD buyers in the area,....Give me a yell..........fishface

Re: 5000 & 4500 settings for very small coils???
Hi Fishface
If your chasing small gold 2 things are very important, close ground contact(scrubbing) and regular ground balance.I think Phoenix has some good settings as they worked really well on the 8" and the 5000.Check some of the earlier posts as there's a few guys here that have some good advise.

Re-5000 & 4500-settings-for-very-small-coils???
G'day Fishface and welcome to the forum, with the 5000 make sure you have it in fine gold, switch on front panel in special and fine gold selected in the screen, I use the coiltek 14"x9" blitz and have it set this way and I found a .05 grm bit with it. As Deutran said make sure your GB is correct as you need to have it running smooth to hear the small changes in the threshold. Hope this helps
Cheers.
Mike.

5000 & 4500 settings for very small coils???
Many thanks to you both Deutran & Mike54 for your replies.
The 5000 is in fine gold & both machines are ground balance often, as needed as the ground is reasonably noisy. I will continue to play with settings. If anyone is using a 5000 or a 4500 with a six inch coil successfully on very small gold, I would appreciate knowing what your settings are.
With much appreciation for your replies.........fishface

Hiya out there fishface,
I am not sure if you know minelab has a dvd out of the 4500/5000's
Which give you info about settings and other tips how to get the best from your detector.
I myself use a Gp 3500 and i swing mostly a 14 x 9 coiltek which is great coil i think,
But i have also bought a 10 x 5 joey DD and tried it out and has paid for itself very quickly
I also picked up lots 0.2's and some dont even move the scale,
Few days ago also i went over a "small gold run" where 4500 & 5000's had been and they had missed
The 3.6 Gram Nugget down about 1 foot underneath some iron stone,
Anyhow cheers for now from the Goldfields Explorer

5000 & 4500 settings for very small coils???
G'day Goldfields explorer,
Thankyou for the reply. I'm impressed with the size you are finding with the GP 3500. Obviously got it tuned well. I have not played anymore with the small coil.......maybe tomorrow. Sometimes you just have to put it away for a day or two to give the brain a rest. My wife uses a 14 x 9 coiltek on her 5000 & is very happy with it. Today she found about a dozen bullets plus a few shotgun pellets......Maybe tomorrow.
We live in hope..........fishface

Hi again mate,
yes better luck tomorow we always say.
Yes i know my Gp3500 works very well but i always try to get that little bit better ,When seeking the small nuggets
Swing slow pace & keep coil low as you can if you know that gold was in that location your in,
I do detecting full time out here so i really like to test different things coils/headphones/. When i am out with a friend who
Has the newer machines we test who can hear the target better then switch coils, Anyhow its very interesting.
Well happy hunting over there cheers from the Goldfields explorer

5000 & 4500 settings for very small coils???
Thanks fencejumper, Have secured the DVD's & hope to look at them when time permit's.
MTB Digger....I tried your settings today......Managed to get a great signal out of a very big meat ants nest...... After a lot of time & half a spray can of "aerogard" sprayed on the boots & legs which proved unfruitful, I managed to secure a very small shotgun pellet which was about 150 ml down plus numerous pain for the legs, I was happy with the performance of the 5000. Seeing I had to suffer so much to get the target, I kept it as a momento of the occasion..........Thanks........fishface

run the same settings with the small coil as you would with your 14x9. adjust the gain and stab to suit conditions if it's too warbly.

Re: 5000 & 4500 settings for very small coils???
Hi Fishface,
I have a 6 inch coil and used it first time few weeks ago.Managed 2 small nuggets -one doesn't register on my scale and other was probably 0.1.
I dont like small coils as well as they do not cover lot of ground.Probably important to add they are deadly on small gold and mostly used in surfaced, bulldozed area and on mullock heaps.
I think for a small gold put your tune over 190 for hunting a small bits.
Good Luck
