My first finds.
In Maryborough I bumped into someone I had met there before which was good. He was getting fustrated after 4 years of no gold. He went to see Wolfgang from Coiltek and asked for him to take him out, I was invited along. The second patch Wolf took us to I unearthed my first 2 nuggets.
A closer look at the larger nugget, is it quarzt?
The smaller nugget was first at 0.6g and the second 3.1g. Pretty happy. These 2 came from the same area as Gully Hunter and Co found theirs.

Only followed the people I was with, found out you were there last night from GH. Remember a white Pajero, X5 and F150? Now I just have to find some for myself.

Thanks for the kind words
I think the nug looks better in the pics than real life, it isn't very shiny. I like the quartz in it so don't want to soak it in acid for too long. How can I make it shiny?

Re-my-first-finds
Gday Cams I usually put my gold in a plastic pill bottle half fill with water add a few drops off dishwashing liquid and shake it for a few hours, it cleans them up pretty good leave it soaking and every now and then shake it I usually do this for a few days, but have got a Aldi altrasonic cleaner now I have only used it a couple of times, the gold I put in it I had used the above on it before I got it. I hope this is some help to you.
Cheers.

Hi Cams 4500,
4 years hay.... I know that feeling. Your persistance has paid off and very nicely with 2 very nice little nuggets.
The good news is, it now becomes easier, you will find now that you have the confidence and know what to listen for the nuggets will come more regulary.
Well done.
Cheers Mark
PS It took me 4 1/2 years and over 200 hours swinging to get my first.

Hi Mike, I haven't done the dish wash detergent thing, but I did buy an Aldi cleaner a little while ago in anticipation, the nugs have seen about 5 mins in that. They then spent about 40 hours in brickie acid, I used bi carb to neutralise after. I might get some alibrite and see how that goes. I would like to make the big one into a pendant for the missus (though it may be a little sharp) and want it to shine more before I decide.

I tried my DSLR first, but witout a macro lens the results were less than pleasing. I used my wifes camera instead Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS7, I was pleased with the results, it made the larger nug look real pretty, better than it looks to the naked eye.

Fortunately for me, it was my friend that took 4 years. My detecting history is this.
Last year abour 6 hours using my dads 4500
March weekend away my own 4500, maybe 12 hours
Easter and week after averaging 4 hours a day, I found them on the 6th day. ( I would have liked to spend more time out but having 2 kids and a wife that got crook restricted me a bit)
I guess I got pretty lucky to find one so early on. Only trouble is, I was led to the spot. I haven't found gold bearing ground yet myself. You can be sure I took good notice of where the patch was and it's surrounds.

Cams put your nugget in Ali-brite for a few days or other type of acid (3 to 4 days) this will not harm the nugget or the quartz but gives everything a good clean. Then wash it in detergent. Now put it in normal house hold bleach for about 8hrs, this will bleach the quartz nice and white and bring up the gold even brighter. I use Domestos straight out of the bottle ( no need to water it down) Then wash with worm water and let it dry.
I have done this many a time with all my speccies and they have all come out well.
