Internet use at Marble Bar telecentre ( community centre)
Is $12.00 a hour to use or $3 for 15 minutes. An the speed is not very fast either.
Does anyone know of any other areas that are more expensive than Marble bar for community funded internet?

Hi Explorer. The telecentres are a godsend. I happilly part with my $3...all though if you want to check out all stoppsy's gold images you have missed on this forum since the last telecentre visit you may be up for the $12. . I do prepare for a visit with all documents (hopefully gold lodgement forms for Beck's) on a memory stick ready to go if not using my computer. They must pay a fortune to subsidise the yearly operational costs to keep the centres operating. I don't think the costs vary much between telecentres.
Nullagine now has wireless around town. If you have your own telstra wifi dongle you can also pick up a signal on many hills if detecting near some towns in the goldfields. I was surprised to get a signal on top of hills some distance from Telfer and Woodie Woodie mining centres.

Hi Explorer,
Welcome to our world!!!!!
Why don't you speak to the government and ask them to rollout the NBN in remote areas before the major cities???????
We have to put up with very little funding in remote areas so the city folk can have all their cost of living cheaper.
We have to live with it. You only visit Western Australia for a short while. Live with it.

Hi Explorer,
I'm sure if you head up Bob Cattar's way you will find the NBN works well. Amazing what you can get when you are a labor member ( sorry independent )

I can not understand why two medium orbit communication satallites are not used for regional communities all over australia. NO lines to dig, will never be damaged, ie cut or fire and flood proof plus vandal proof . Would be cheaper and faster than laying fibre optic in all the small towns all over the australian continent. As to the reliablity of the signal strength i am not sure. An the speeds will be slower than fibre optic. But surely it would be a better option.

Hi Explorer,
It comes down to cost. Check this site out. http://go.bigpond.com/satellite/?ref=Net-Head-Int-Satellite
It would be nice to have the same internet access and speed as the city folk have. But the big communication company's don't want to spend their money in remote areas.
If the mining company's can supply satellite internet access to their workers (free of charge), why does'nt the government fund remote areas???????????

Yes i agree Redbullion 100%
The federal government needs to do more for disadvantaged areas and isolated towns and properties in some way. On a national level. I do not see the NBN being the solution.
