Howdy all,
While researching for the day I get a detector I started getting alarmed at the % of Tasmania already under licence. Oh well I will just go on Public land ...only trouble is Nick and his sickly green cronies are trying to lock that up as well. I asked someone in MRT about what was going on and this was his reply.

Hi Roger
This is a concern to a lot of us, but it is not really in the mix yet. I have voiced my concerns internally, but it is not getting through and is really up to the gem clubs and TLMA to write some letters to the Minister for Mines (Bryan Green) and Director of Mines (Kim Creak) noting that they could possibly lose some important fossicking areas. We can problably get some exemptions for fossicking in some areas at least, but there are very big battles going on with Forestry/Mining/Environmentalists and it will take some effort to get noticed

So lets get going on it people and make some noise before we become and annex to NT and can go nowhere (legally that is )

Hi, We will write to both these ministers voicing our concerns to. For a hobby and getting out keeping fit to look after ourselves we need everybody to voice there concerns, even the mainland guys. One day they may want to come down here fossicking or even move down here. We need to keep all available areas open.

Tassie, probably the last frontier, should be in the interest of all of us
to safe this precious beauty for us prospectors.

My family have been prospecting for at least 100 years. Tom Stacey discovered Osmoridium at Adamsfield, That discovery helped this state along at a time of great poverty in Tasmania.

i Prospect the area in question and make my living in it as a chef. I have lived in and around the WHA for decades. If you close it up, Not that you can get into most of it without risking your life. whats that going to do for me? Its a serious question on a serious issue. Why didnt the Tarkine coalition lift a finger about Guilford getting smashed? its right next door to you, and the largest wholesale destruction this state has ever seen. where where you then? up a tree?

taken from Tarkine.org one of the opponents.

TEN NEW MINES FOR THE TARKINE?
There are now ten new mines proposed for the Tarkine over the next five years, and the campaign to prevent this onslaught of destruction is heating up. Nune of these mines are Pilbara style open cut mines. The first two companies to submit for permits are Venture Minerals for their proposed Mt Lindsay tin mine. and Shree Minerals for their proposed Nelson Bay River iron ore mine.

make that 11.. affraid

Judging by the photo in the join us page. i have to question if i would join them, Unforgiving scrub and kids in skivvies is not a wining combo.

We do need a club, and more importantly an association. A voice with oomph. Urgently..
