target volume and volume limit help
Ive read this subjet a few times and are doing my head in trying to get around the explanation in the manual on the difference between the two on this. Would greatly appreciate any further explanations from the more knowledgable good people on this forum and any tips on using them that they may have.

Re: target volume and volume limit help
Volume Limit is exactly what it says, limits the loudness of a horse shoe when you go over it. If its set low the sound will not blow your head off, if set too high your going to know about it.
Has the same effect on soft targets. Use with caution if you suffer hearing loss, you dont want it too low in that case.
Has an effect on your threshold volume if set too low, im talking in the range of 1-2-3-4?? not all detectors will register this difference if set on the same number....best to just stand there and turn it from 1 till you find the number where the thresh changes, that will be your reference point....anything above that number will make the horseshoe louder and the softer targets as well.
Listen carefully as the change is not a big one.
Target volume is basically the overall volume level, can effect your speaker if it comes to close to the coil as the field from the speaker and coil mix.....Oscillation.
Big numbers in your Volume Limit mixed with big numbers on your Target Volume will certainly educate you with the term oscillation if working creek walls when the coil is used at chest height. Another example is when retrieving your target from the tailing and the speakers field enters that off the coils.
Hope this helps.

g`day bikehe
i know a lot of people set their volume limits higher , but i have mine set at 5 , whether i am running speaker or headphones. it may have been an optical illusion but it seemed to me that my 5000 is much more erratic if i set target volume above 7 , so my target volume is always set at 7. i think people set their volumes higher so they will hear the small pieces , but a month or so ago i got 11 pieces for 0.9 grams with these settings. just work slow and listen for very slight changes in the threshold
hope this helps
cheers dave

Thanks for adding further info Pheonix as its all helping. Tried out the setting the other day and the detector volume is obvious but I must have buggered hearing as the target volume only gave a suttle change.
Please explain mate. I'm sure you know what it means but I havnt got a clue or you taking the micky.
